Was having a discussion with the sons and some older friends and the subject of Bond Theme songs came up. Which were the best. There are some old guard Bond fans that favor the old ones over the Daniel Craig ones but I gotta say, IMHO it's Adele's "Skyfall". Second place I can't decide between and Jack White/Alicia Keyes "Quantum of Solace" (the music and singing are complimentary and unusual). 1.) Adele "Skyfall" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4gdhsVKTcs 2.)Jack White/Alicia Keyes "Quantum of Solace" (Another way to Die) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMXT3aJxH_A 2.) Casino Royale "You Know My Name" by Chris Cornell of Soundgarden and Audioslave. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1AMUmkj-ck 3.) "Goldfinger" sung by "Shirley Bassey would be my next choice, quintessential Bond, IMO. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6D1nK7q2i8I&spfreload=1 4.) "Golden Eye", who doesn't like Tina Turner? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXphws8nYFA 5.) "Tomorrow Never Dies" Cheryl Crowe, starts slow but gets better. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cff2rGQ9yI 6.) Probably next would be "Live and Let Die" by Paul McCartney. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b07Z_qfchFk I know a lot of ya'll are into music and am looking forward to your comments.
"The World Is Not Enough." More for the song than the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8C5NLfYdZaE
Gold Finger for sure...I still sing that (whilst substituting the words) - Then View to a kill: Duran Duran...then "for your eyes only" Sheena Easton
Naturally I´d pick The Duran song (2) as I was a fan of them, too, but must say I must pick Gold finger (1) here....Let´s say Adele no 3 for me then.
The Adele one is the WORST. Sounds like a pub singer in a working mens club up north. Goldfinger is classic old style Bond same as From Russia with Love. Living Daylights by Aha is ok.
I have to stick with Gold Finger more foe the fact it is so memorable than the words or music. But Shirley Bassey's voice is amazing. and CDC, she was too old to be my "niece " Gaines
"On Her Majesty's Secret Service" is classic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8XNBpIkQpU I do like "A View to a Kill" and "Living Daylights"
For me "You know my Name" is the best, strong, on topic and a great intro for a new Bond. "Goldfinger" at number 2, equally strong, on topic and iconic for franchise. "Skyfall" at position 3. Very strong and superb voice, something you can listen to anytime. Number 4 is "Live and Let Die" Iconic for the time and a bit of a change for the ex-Beattle. One of the few times a single song caused me to buy a album, yes album! Rounding out my top 5 is "Diamonds are Forever", another Bassy song that was iconic. Ironically, two of my favorite's are from the Daniel Craig era and two on my least favorites are also from his run. 'Quantum' is far too rappy for my taste and 'Spectre' is borderline muzak.
In no particular order: Best Songs: Goldfinger, OHMSS, Skyfall, Casino Royale, Live and Let Die, You Only Live Twice (I've always liked it for some reason...), Diamonds are Forever Worst Songs: Spectre, Quantum of Solace, Moonraker, Thunderball
This thread lead me to listen to them all again, Lol. Enjoyed "Tomorrow Never Dies" by Sheryl Crowe. Movie was garbage though.
I have to go with "Goldfinger" and "Live and Let Die" for my top 2. "The Spy Who Loved Me" and "For Your Eyes Only" are tied for 3rd.
Has anyone read any of the original books by Ian Fleming ? I've only ever read the book of the film Moonraker when it was out in 1979 when a lad. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Bond_and_Moonraker Never read any of the original novels. Did wonder whether to give them a go.
I've always like "For Your Eyes Only" by Sheena Easton. Not sure which Bond movie it was tied to, but the name of the song is familiar for some reason. Never was much of a Bond fan. Inspector Clouseau was much more to my liking from that era. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fN1WBgS9u_E
