Could try explaining what a dummy Sten is first... Do you mean the silenced version (MkIIS)?

AFAIK, dummy means it can't fire.

Well, that's kind of my interpretation as well, but KP says he has a Sten Kit. A Sten kit would assemble into a replica i.e. "Dummy" gun by my understanding, so I'm a bit confused about what he means.

Perhaps by a Sten Kit he means a spares kit for the Sten, or maybe he means he has the Kit but no assembly instructions? Without a bit of general clarification here it's kind of impossible to help because I don't know what he's actually trying to do!

    Settle down, breath, relax. :D

You're going in circles, man! I got that too, but I assume he has only parts for a sten MkIII, or he would rather have a sten that doesn't fire than one that does!

Most kits like Stens, Uzis and the like are usually complete guns that have de-activated parts. The barrels are normally welded shut and receivers are cut in two or three pieces.

The cut receiver is the problem as you are not allowed to put them back together. Some companies make non-functioning (dummy) receivers for de-activated guns so you can make show guns out of them. Not aware of any the make Sten dummies though.

    sten kit dummy

a while ago capco was selling sten kits for twenty five dollars all the parts are there but the receiver is cut in half. it would be easy to buy a reveiver kit and just weld the whole shebang together i think, then you could tote the sten into reenactments and take a hit before firing a shot. has anyone done this or knows of a class 3 or just a welder who knows how to do it, it seems to me a simple wooden jig would be the way to go to hold all the parts in alignment while the welding is done

    the receiver kit

the receiver kit is simply a exhaust tube from a car and a template that shows you where to make cuts. the quality of steel will not support firing the thing so you arent liable to be in trouble with the atf i noticed the barrel is not plugged nor are any other parts damaged so I would just weld the bolt in one position. btw I have p. 37 and my tea cup and a denison and a bivee and a helmet so I just need ammo boots and flashes. shall we brew up?

If you simply fabricate a metal housing to act as a receiver to hold the parts together, that is fine. You cannot reweld the real receiver as it has been recorded with the ATF as a parts gun with a destroyed receiver.

Some folks have tried to do the same thing with cut up M-14 receivers and get into very serious trouble doing it.
