Alma C. Smucker (1912 - 2008) ARCHBOLD,OHIO - Alma C. Smucker, 96, of Archbold, died Sunday afternoon, July 27, 2008, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home, Archbold, where she had resided for one month. Born May 16, 1912, at Lakefield, Minn., to Julia (Sangle) and Carl Rathsack, she married Lawrence "Red" Smucker on Aug. 19, 1944, and he preceded her in death Sept. 15, 1997. Moving to the Archbold area in 1942, she had worked with the Civil Aeronautics (now the FAA) during World War II. She was a homemaker and had also worked at the Girl Scout National Headquarters, Sauder Woodworking Co. and Sauder Village. She was a 4-H leader for more than 25 years, and an active member of St. James Lutheran Church in Burlington and the Franklin Friendly Folks. Surviving are four sons, Theodore (and wife, Ruth) Smucker of Reedsville, Wis., Samuel (Diana) Smucker of Archbold, Philip Smucker of Locust Grove, Ga. and Jefferson Smucker of Archbold; three daughters, Barbara (and husband, Robert) Liggell of Brevard, N.C., Laurel (James) Miller of Neligh, Neb., and Judith (Andrew) Kaufmann of Bryan; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers; and two sisters. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. in the Short Funeral Home, Archbold, and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the St. James Lutheran Church. Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the church. Interment will follow in the Johnson Cemetery, Archbold. Memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church or to Hospice of Williams and Fulton Counties.
