    ASPANG HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL IN VIENNA

This moderate memorial at arm’s length from Vienna’s city center is less well-known compared to many other WW2 and Holocaust-related locations and is even less frequently visited. At the same time, 96% of all people regarded by the Nazis as Jews, who were deported from Vienna between 1939 and 1945, left the city from an unremarkable railway station called ‘Aspangbahnhof’ (Aspang train station). 47,035 people—men, women, and children—were deported from a depot that no longer exists. I visited the site in 2021 and now want to share my exhaustively detailed historical research devoted to the fate of the Austrian Jews and their deportation from Aspang. The material is supplemented with 50+ archival photos, some of which have never been published before.

I would greatly appreciate your feedback on this material: ask questions, suggest corrections, and share your own experience.
