I always enjoyed the Characters he portrayed, Rest In Peace Mr Hopper. Dennis Hopper is seen in 2008, before he was diagnosed with cancer. msnbc.com news services Hollywood hellraiser Dennis Hopper dead at 74 - Celebrities - TODAY Show
Me too, I didn't care for a couple of his films but they weren't Mr. Hopper's fault. I also noticed that Gary Coleman passed away as well. He had been reported in an ICU and a coma yesterday or the day before.
Like him or not, a great figure of Hollywood. I'm really sorry to hear of his passing....and here's how I'll always remember him :

Darn this is sad news. Rest in Peace Dennis, my favorite role of yours was as James Gregory's Son in the excellent Western: The Sons of Katie Elder. You got to work with many greats including John Wayne, Dean Martin, Earl Holliman, Paul Fix, James Gregory and Jeremy Slate. Damned cancer! Also sad to hear that Gary Coleman passed away. He was just really starting to get his life back together again. What a shame/
Dennis Hopper played a bunch of smaller roles that people tend to forget. He was "Goon" in Rebel Without a Cause, and had a "bit part" in Giant as well. He fell afoul of the director of From Hell to Texas, and didn't get any Hollywood parts until the Sons of Katie Elder, which was directed by the same man (Hackwood, Hackworth?). In the mean time he appeared on Broadway and in the new medium of TV, he playe a Hitleresque like figure in The Twilight Zone (who is visited by Hitler's ghost), and a few other low impact parts as well.
Great info Clint. Im not certai but i'd always thought that Howard Hawks directed Katie Elder? I don't think I really ever paid attention to whom directed that fine Western? Ill have to take a look next time im over @ Duke Wayne to make sure for certain ;-)) I had forgotten to mention above, that George Kennedy was also in that fine film-and did a magnificent job of being the villain in black.
Nope, it was Henry Hathaway (I sure missed that last name!). He also directed the Duke in North to Alaska, and True Grit. But in your defense, both directors had double "H" in their names!

Hi Clint, you beat me to the punch on two things. I was going to correct myself by saying Hathaway-and the only reason I remembered he directed Katie Elder was because that movie was the favorite movie of an ex-neighbor of mine who happened to be the Pastor of the Lutheran Church across the street from my house. The other thing you beat me on was announcing Clints 80th B-Day.
