Hi, my grandfather recently passed and I came into possession of his WWII Marines uniform. Can anybody shed some light on the significance of the ribbons? Thanks in advance!
Top row Navy Presidential Unit Citation(it is upside down) Second Row: American Defense Service Ribbon w/bronze battle star ,Air Force Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon,AIr Force Presidential Unit Citation(does not belong) Third Row: Asiatic-Pacific Campaign w/4 bronze battle stars.,American Campaign,American defense w/bronze battle star. It appears someone has added the Air Force ribbons . Who knows why. They are not appropriate. The order of wear is as follows: Navy Presidential Unit Citation,American Defense,American Campaign,Asiatic-Pacific Campaign. He would also be entitled to wear the WW2 Victory ribbon. Only one American Defense Ribbon should be displayed.

I thought something seemed off with the ribbons - it's beyond me how that could have happened. And now that I know the patch is for the 1st Marine Division, I can research that. I'm very grateful to both of you for your help.
If you have Ancestry you can get USMC records on fold3. You can also apply for his records file. Someone will have the info on how to do it.
