Hi My husband is reading "The Arms of Krupp." In a nearby town, there is a German artillery piece and we'd like to know if it is a Krupp gun from WWII. We found no indication of the the three rings of Krupp. It does have a circle divided like the Mercedes emblem with the letters B, V and G in each part of the circle. Additional markings include "L2263 MAN 1936" R544, 1939, Sg76630BVGR1.30F1.24Man and two stampings of the Third Reich eagle/swastika emblem, one has W (can't read it) A357. It is mounted on rubber tires, has upper and lower recoil cylinders, folded arms and he thought the muzzle barrel was stamped 120 - he did it by feel as we didn't have a ladder. We also didn't have a camera with us but will post a picture as soon as we get one.
OK - regarding the prior post on the German artillery piece - here's a picture. It is located at 202 W Main Street in Benton, IL
Some people have lists of relics with info about them so if you could give the town and state it's in they might be able to identify it as well as give you some of its history.
15cm sFH 18. German howitzer. Designed by Krupp/Rheinmettal, produced by Krupp, Rheinmettal, Spreewerk, Skoda, and MAN.
Thanks for the help. We were in Benton today and caught the museum when it was open. The gentleman there said he'd registered the gun on the Living History Registry and referred me to this website: 15 cm sFH 18 - Wikipedia Maybe next time we'll look over the carriage more carefully to see if we can spot the three rings of Krupp.
