    Commander of the Second Australian Imperial Force, Lt.-Gen. Sir Thomas Blamey, C.B., C.M.G., D.S.O, was born in New South Wales in 1884, He served throughout the European War of 1914-18, was mentioned in dispatches Seven times, and became Chief of Staff to Sir John Monash, by whom he was described as “a soldier and a half.â€Â￾ Later he was to be come, Commander of the Australian Third Division.
