    Mr. Anthony Smith, G.C. A Chelsea chimney-sweep, Rescue Service worker was honoured for "Outstanding gallantry and devotion to duty in conditions of the utmost danger and difficulty." Burrowing beneath blazing debris, he rescued a trapped casualty in the basement of a bomb-wrecked house which was about to collapse.
