A rare Nazi badge which bears an unsettling similarity to the three lions on the English football shirt is to be auctioned. At first glance, the patch of embroidered white thread on a dark background, looks like it could be straight from a merchandise stall promoting the feats of David Beckham and Wayne Rooney.

But the 2in badge, to be sold later this month, belonged on the tunic of soldiers in the British SS Freikorps Brigade, a little-known elite unit in Hitler's army.

Or was it only for the Britsh free corps British soldiers???

It was used for the British Freikorps since the three lions is the symbol for England.

The dealer who is going to auction that collartab said he expects the price to reach 1,000 pounds. I think that unlikely-I think way much more will be paid for that collartab. If I had the money? i'd pay into the thousands for it-especially since it has provanance.

what is the proof that the collar tab is original issue. back in the 1960's they were sewing these things up and selling them via mail order like the rest of the ss-collar tabs from the battalions/divisions....... I know for fact as I got sucked up into purchasing a fake

That is what I was thinking, Ike. One would expect them to use something similar to what is from their homeland.

Personally I´d think there would be more than 30 of these made but which are original is the key question....

The British Freikorps hardly covered themselves in glory. The reports I have read over the years ,of the members who sold their stories to the Sunday tabloids , give me the impression they would have been dodgers and skivers in any army.
OK give a few quid for it as an item of minor interest. As for paying thousands, no offence meant , I would rather that amount was donated to Selly Oak Hospital, Military Wards. Thats a place full of real British Army Heros and it would be money well spent on people who really deserve it. Sorry but I think the persons selling these items are just oppotunists out to make easy money instead of donating the items or profits for a real cause.
    Sunday morning rant over.

No offences taken. What I meant is that if indeed that collartab were the real deal and with proof of ownership and wear-and being as that less than 30-50 being made-that this particular item and also being Waffen SS-related-that this would be a great investment and that the price (providing I had the money and bidding opportunity) that I would pay more than just 1,000 pounds for such a rare piece as these are. However, I do like your suggestion much more in having the proceeds of the sale-go to said mentioned Hospital-which aint going to happen in this case-unfortunately.
