During the first world war,India was still a non-independent country. It was under the control of British rule. But it indirectly involved itself in the first world war & fought against the central powers.India supported the British forces by supplying men & resources.India had provided over 1.3 million soldiers out of which nearly 47000 were killed & 65000 were injured in the war.India didn't have any direct relation to the war & still then it joined. What benefit it had got from the first world war ?Why it had joined the war ?

I guess that as India was part of the British Empire like Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc. etc. they felt they had to do theiir bit for King and Country. Just like all the poor Tommy's who took the King's shilling to fight .What did anyone get out of it?

India played a hidden but important role in both WW1 &WW2. No. of Indian soldiers were killed or got injured in these war's. At that time India was under British government, hence it indirectly fought for British with its powerful army.

Actually saw a film, name slips me at the moment, regarding Indians fighting in ww2, it showed you their part and how they fought for recognition and war pensions late in life. Good film to. :thumb:
