Virgil O. Rohrs (1925 - 2008) HICKSVILLE,OHIO - Virgil O. Rohrs, 83, died Saturday, July 26, 2008, at Community Memorial Hospital, Hicksville. Born March 30, 1925, at Six Corners in Hicksville Township to Lula (Wonderly) and Raymond Rohrs, he married Berneice Whitman on March 28, 1948, and she survives. Serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, from 1944-1946, he was awarded the Purple Heart and two bronze stars while serving in the Philippines. He and his wife were the owners of Rohr's Gas for Less in Hicksville until 1980. He also was a special deputy with the Defiance County Sheriff's Office for many years. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Darlene Conti of Asheville, N.C.; a son, Neal (and wife, Jeana) of Charlotte, Mich.; two grandsons, Austin of Mt. Pleasant, Mich., and Luke (Mary Beth) of Ithica, Mich.; a great-granddaughter, Emma; two brothers, Bud (Mary) of Hicksville and Max (Judy) of Kissimee, Fla.; and a sister, Thelma (and husband, Merrill) Postma of Hicksville. He was preceded in death by a son, Keith; a brother, Carl; and a sister, Grace Swenson. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in the Smith & Brown Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Tom Graves to officiate. Burial will be at Six Corners Cemetery, Hicksville. Memorials may be made to Community Memorial Hospital Foundation or Hospice, the Caring Way, or Trinity United Methodist Church.
