yeah i knew some ppl would eat that up.. I absolutely loved it... so neat how they did the whole voice over-dubbing thing, and the private convo captured with hitler and finnish guy.

@pizzadevil: man, I still don't understand what you mean exactly, but I am trying to... They DID make a documentary with the voices added, thats the link I posed! What do you mean exactly?? Please be very explicit otherwise its just too vague to offer any solid assistance.

Sorry, no "overdubbing" or subtitles on most of these, but they do capture Hitler's "conversational" tone/voice pretty well.

Hitler’s normal talking voice in conversation:

Hitler flies to Finland for Mannerheim’s birthday.

    Goto:

(if you look closely you will see the brakes on fire of Hitler’s plane after landing, and in the background two guys with extingushers rushing in to put it out)

And the secret recording of Hitler talking to the Finnish Field Marshal Mannerheim.

Did Chamberlain speak other languages than English ?And Daladier? Only French (French are not known for speaking foreign languages )
    About Churchill's French:let 's keep silent .

Daladier was a former History teacher and studied several languages up to a University level . He later became Minister of Education, so he certainly spoke English and some German .

Churchill spoke "passable" french and read German, while Daladier spoke English/German/Spanish and a "peasant version" of Italian I believe.

FDR spoke, read and wrote in French and German, but Stalin and Hitler spoke no "foreign" languages.

The films with the added voices but WITHOUT the voice of the 'presentator/historians', like the videos Clint posted. If you still dont understand me I dont know how to explain it then..

Just a thought, but it seems to be a morale here : those who had an University Education spoke foreign languages, those who didn't have an "education" didn't :p
I makes me think of the Motto of Louis the XIV saying "violence is the last argument of the King"

Skipper, I just thought of something. Both Hitler and Stalin may have had a working knowledge of Latin since Hitler was a practicing Catholic for years before his NSDAP days, and Stalin had been forced to go to the seminary by his mother.

Stalin never forgave his mother for sending him off to that seminary, and I don't believe he even attended her funeral.

Agreed but I believe some "kitchen Latin" was still widely taught at schools in the 30s in Europe , especially in those ruled by priests and nuns

Stalin had to learn Russian at school. So I guess he also knew the language of Georgia, where he was born.
Both his parents were Georgian peasants neither of whom spoke Russian. Stalin however was forced to learn the language of instruction during his school life at the Gori church school which he attended between 1888 until 1894.

Today yes, but before the later half of the 20th Century Latin was the language of the Roman Catholic Church, and the services were performed in Latin in Hitler's home area. He would have known some Latin from the Church, I'm not saying he was fluent in it by any stretch. Hitler had failed in his two French classes, and changed to "shorthand" as a replacement class. He also received less than "average" marks in German in secondary school. Mostly "D" marks.

"F's" in French and "D's" in German.

I recieved my education in a catholic school from 1961 to 1967,and I can assure you that the Latin we were taught was no 'kitchen Latin 'but the classic Latin of Ovidius,.....The first year we were taught the memoires of Caesar, the second year we had also Greece ;an age that has gone, sadly .:(

Nope, Hitler used a translator for dealing with Franco, he spoke no Spanish. I believe Doctor Paul Schmidt was the Führer’s interpreter in both French and Spanish. Admiral Canaris spoke fluent Spanish, French, Italian, English, and I believe Portugese. Hitler spoke no foreign languages, unless one considers German a foreign language since he was an Austrian by birth.

BTW, even though Mussolini spoke German, Hitler always had Dr. Schmidt with him when he spoke with Mussolini, just to make sure that what Mussolini said to others in Italian he would also know about. He also used Schmidt to make sure that what he said back to Mussolini in German was relayed by Mussolini correctly to his people.

Here are three photos that show Dr. Schmidt (in the background) when Hitler meets Petain, Franco, and the meeting with Mussolini in the bomb destroyed bunker. Dr. Schmidt was in the Foreign Ministery, and the official interpreter.
