My Grandad Joseph Andrew Chastain, served in the 1636th eng. battalion. He spoke of a brown jug that they listed places they’d been on. They wrote it on the jug. Does anyone have any knowledge of, or ever heard of this?

The song The Little Brown Jug was a popular tune of the era. I suspect the term was utilized in other areas.

Here are documents that correct the record about my dad's return to US with the 27th Eng. Bn.
