1st Polish Armoured Division / Canadian Forces September 1944

Good afternoon,

My town Zelzate in Belgium was liberated by the Canadians on September 19, 1944 and by the 1st Polish Armoured Division on September 17th. We have a canal in the middle of the town, so the Canadian Forces took the western part, the Polihs Forces the eastern part.

We are in the process to erect a monument for them in September 2023

I could use some information for a booklet explaining the actions of the units that liberated us please:
looking for diaries, journals, history, photo's :

Thank you Biak for the links ! Yes, I have contacted them (also a museum in Zagan Poland for the Polish Podhale Battalion). Contacted nothing else yet.
The museum fot the A&SH said their archiver will contact me soon, but he was rather busy. So I am waiting patiently Hope he will write soon.
Would be nice if we would have the history of the units liberating the town at the time we erect the monument.

 

May I suggest you use the mapping services of Project 44. Link below

Project '44

With Project 44, you can place the Unit name in the search bar, and it will tell you every day from the 6 Jun until war end WHERE each of the units above were. When you move the date to the date you want, then you just touch the unit marker on the map, and it will give you the War Diaries for that unit for that day. So basically you can see the War Diaries of each of the units above for the the days you’re looking for.

BUT, their are no Polish unit War diaries on the above maps unfortunately.

Thanks for your help, I got all war diaries by now; the ones I need = Argylls, South Alberta, 4th Div and Algonquils. => OK. <3
"Pain in the ass" (sorry) is pictures from those units, especially in Belgium.... There is little in the Archives, and we need Copyright for them = asked by mail by now.
