Okay, this is the return of the infamous misunderstanding among rightist Americans that all leftists are communists... So "I'm not even going to go into that one". Even if what you said were true (which it most certainly and obviously is not), then so what? The US is only called imperialist by leftists, and? Are these people not entitled to an opinion? Are we to think less of their opinion because of their political standpoint? Then we might as well stop listening to rightist America as well, since with their support for the Bush regime we already know they will do anything to make him look like a good leader. But you didn't just free them entirely. Especially not judging the cruel subjugation campaign the American armies enacted following up their occupation of the islands. Essentially, if temporarily, you just replaced one colonial regime with another. I didn't say that! You're distorting my words. What I said was that before WW2 the recovery had begun, and that the New Deal had some part in that.
I wonder, and maybe this has already been mentioned so please don't hit me, why the greatest americans always have to be presidents? I saw the link in the first post and 4 of the 5 people mentioned there were presidents. Why?
i cant think of any famous canadians that are known worldwide....there must be some apart from pamela anderson
I will rise to the defense of Canada here and point out that Jim Carrey, Michael J. Fox, William Shatner and Dan Ackroyd were born Canadian (though some if not all are American citizens also AFAIK)
What about Neil young , john candy , rick moranis , andrea martin , martin short , dave foley , scott thompson, kevin mcdonald , shania twain, wayne gretzky , umm 80% of NHL all-stars today are canadian , don't forget the hockey stars from the retro era (40's,50's,60's,70's,80's,)Emile stowe , colin mochrie.
Alex Trebec, Anne Murray, and Terri Clark as well. So is wacko kd lang. I believe John C. Garand was also from Canada.
exactly..a lot of those on those lists are not renowned outside north america...dont forget most north american sporting stars arnt well known in the rest of the world.. unless they are at the pinnacle of the sport (wayne gretsky i know..the rest i dont).
true.. but i can only think of basketball that is played worldwide as a sport you would associate with north america. when it comes to sport the usa in particular is very insular...hence their hockey, baseball, american football and basketball players are less well known worldwide than european football players for example. hence the reason their is no point putting canadian sports palyers in because the vast majority outside north america wont know who they are.
I'm not sure that the point of choosing the "greatest Canadian" is to choose the most world famous Canadian (which would obviously be Pepe LePew or Dudley DoRight ) but to choose who the Canadians think represents the "greatest" (whatever greatness means). edit..hmm maybe Pepe was French and not French Canadian since he spoke like Charles Boyer or was it Maurice Chevalier..one of those guys.
