    Wow, just wow.

Three of the men on that bill were killed in action.

It looks like the names were written by one person. If he was writing names of men in his platoon, it would date it before Aug 7, 1944, as that was when Domkowski was killed, south of Mortain, France. Sgt Scott was killed 2 Sep, 1944, SE of Tounai, Belgium. Kimball was kill 24 January, south of Malmedy, Belgium. A couple others were WIA.

I am going to see if I can enlarge the photo.

Do you have access to a flatbed scanner? If so, could you scan these at a higher resolution? It would flatten out the bill and also allow us to enlarge the photos easier. At a high enough resolution, you could probably get the photo to 5x7 size without losing clarity. Maybe even larger

I believe that the handwriting was my grandfather’s, it looks like his to me. My sister has both of these items. I will ask her if she can scan them.

I have a handwritten list of the drivers in 1st Platoon and T4 Domkowski's name is on it. I'll dig it out and see if other names match the franc.

I remember one of the names was Cannonball. It would be fun to figure out who that was.

That is a great relic. It doesn't have every 1st Platoon soldier, so I could not use the process of elimination to figure out names. But it is still a big help.

I have a video from Al Cirioni if you would like a copy of it. He talks about the 30 Recon in combat. His widow was still alive as of three years ago and quite talkative.

Maurice Kimball was killed 24 Jan 1945 in Belgium, just as the Battle of the Bulge was concluding.

Sgt Scott, on the back of the bill, was killed Sept 2, 1944 near Tournai, Belgium. Mr. Sanford called him the finest soldier he ever knew.

Edward Domkowski was killed 7 Aug, 1944, south of Mortain, France. His death stayed with Mr. Sanford all of his life and he would never tell me what happened. It was only after watching the Al Cirioni's video did I learn the circumstances of his horrendous death. This was after Mr. Sanford's passing in 2015.

Billings was wounded twice, the first in early July, 1944, Samuels was wounded in mid July. These names make me think that quite likely the bill was acquired not long after 30 Recon landed across Omaha Beach, near the Vierville draw on 17 June, 1944. Maybe the last two weeks of June, as they did not go onto the line immediately?

    Sir,
What are all of your sources on this? I'd love to dig in more.

First person accounts, records from MARA in Maryland and St. Louis.

Do you have a connection with 30 Recon?

    Jeff,
I was looking up the grave of CPL Vincenzo, and his gravestone shows a death of April 12th, 1945. Not sure as to the discrepancy. 39314827_124730298362.jpg

    Dan,
I show Cpl Vincenzo as being killed in action on April 12, along with Harold Works and Wildebaldo Nila, Siestedt, Germany.

    Did you get my email?

I shipped your book yesterday. Should be there Tuesday.
