Photographs from the big reconstruction devoted to the 69th anniversary of Kiev liberation from the fascist. In autumn 1943 the troops of Wehrmacht, defending Kiev, managed to repel the advance of the Soviet troops twice. Their defense on the right bank of the Dnieper was quite reliable and they still planned to change the course of the fighting and move back to the east. They didn't expect the massive attack of the Red Army from the north in November, 3rd, 1943. They were drinking their coffee, taking photos near their guns and were doing morning exercises...

This is the same Russian masters that destroyed several very famous and old monuments in Kiev, (as well as the old town center) in an act of sabotage that still leaves modern Ukrainians cold as ice to their Russian neighbours.

The wanton destruction of the old monuments and monestaries, carried out in 1941 by the NKVD, is still remembered by the people of Kiev as an act of pointless cultural vandalism.

Thank their Soviet master for that one, and for attempting and failing to blame it on the Nazis, in the manner of Katyn.

Just looking at the photos, the re-enactors have obviously spent much time, money and effort into making this as authentic as possible. don't you wish we had color photographs of this quality for the Great Patiotic War entire?

Notice how the blue Luftwaffe division uniforms stand out like sore thumbs compared to the brown mottled camoflage of the SS re-enactors? No wonder Lufwaffe divisions were a failure and a terrible waste of resources better put into the regular army. Nobody in their right mind would authorize blue uniforms for such terrain colouring. What an idiot goring was for insisting that the Luftwaffe field divisions should be dressed as such, or that they should exist at all. Bloody silliness, vanity and arrogance all at once. Must have cost a lot of lives before disbanding them.
