It sort of looks like a voodoo doll at first look. You could probably sell a lot of them in the French Quarter around Halloween.

He's not doing anything different than people like you did unfairly to Bush for eight years. Turnabout is fair play-but not to Jethrobama Bodine worshipers like some people I know

Since Tex and I and others like us say things about OLDD that you don't like well-all I say is that's tough. One thing I do hope, is that we don't have to bash OLDD for more than a total of four years. He should consider himself lucky if that happens? as Bush had to constantly and unfairly endure that crap for eight years--and DEM SUM.

Hi Fried, the only problem with what you say here is-that I would take MJ over oldd anyday because eventually the authorities would have found enough on him to convict him, sentence him to Prison (where he clearly belonged) and then the Prison Authorities could have looked the other way long enough to let the inmates properly take care of him just as happened to Jeffrey Dahmer.

Which if you remove the almost McCarthyite paranoia translates as 'scared because Obama isn't a conservative who shares exactly the same views as him.' I take it the UK is pretty much communist? Are there reds under your bed? Is your neighbour a communist? Be afraid, be very afraid!

How on earth can a Bushophile talk about public embarassment. Obama may not be perfect but lets face it, the rest of the world no longer regards the US as a violent, aggressive nation led by a semi-literate psychopath (note, no criticism of Bush, simply the way he is viewed by the world). There are no longer entire tv programs around the country devoted to gaffs made by your president, I know how much you dislike comparison between BO and GB but honestly, the entire world alternated between laughing hysterically and cringing in terror under Bush, at least now you have Obama your allies are a little less worried about you getting them killed and fewer people make a living from laughing at the pres.

Urqh, it isn't that I don't think it is wrong, I just think that it is a pretty good way to distract people from matters that are really important. Sure, it is wrong that MP's claim some stupid things on expenses (though lets face it, by the end there were some really pathetic things being brought up, often things that they are required to claim for) however you don't honestly think it was brought out as a headline for any reason other than to sell papers do you? It also very conveniently pushed more important matters off the front pages.

It just seems pathetic that people will put up with undemocratic wars, revocation of basic rights we have had since Magna Carta and so on but an MP claims hobnobs on expenses, well now, that is truly crossing the line!

Ah, FINALLY a decent reply from you today that's worthy of using at least one Brain Cell to answer.

First off, I have no McCarthly-like paranoia. That's just yet ANOTHER lame attempt to derail this discussion by an ardent liberal as yourself is all the while trying to really say---nothing-which is ALWAYS the case when something is debunked by a Conservative when saying something that is called--the truth. As they say, truth hurts doesn't it bud?

Second, im no "Bushophile" and I have voiced my arguments against several of ""Bush's Follies"" in the past. Yeah, I voted for him both times and ONLY because I felt he was the "lesser of two evils" and felt that he was the better candidate for the job. I shudder to think at how Fu#### - up this Country would have been under the TLC of a MoRoN like al "Bush-stole-the-election-gore" & then yet with one even a bit worse (If that's actually possible?) worse than al "Bush-stole-the-election-gore" by the name of john "IM a war hero" kerry. The only ones I see now that can even top these two idiots off on being the worst candidates running for Office of the President of the United States are: billery itself as well as bulge-eyed pelosi. And NO-I have nothing against a member of the opposite Sex-and race for that matter-running for said Office. I've openly started many many times that i'd vote for Condoleeza Rice-had she decided to run for that office? Oh my God, Rice is not only a gulp--Woman, but she's an AMERICAN OF AFRICAN DESCENT. Get that right will you? However, since she did not run-there really was not much left to choose-either the socialist-communist wannabe that's unfortunately now the President-or an actual war hero who put inro this a fairly lame effort at being elected. And for that matter, IF Sarah Palin decides to run for office again in 2012, I will vote for her again unless there is a better person to vote for at that time. One thing I can say about Sarah Palin, is that she had you leftists scared shipless-doesn't she? The answer to that is a definate YES. Like Bush, she's no longer a Politician but yet, people like YOU decide to blame everything bad on the both of them-which is just one of many ways that it is proven to me-that you are s######g your panties.

Sorry Carl, don't wear panties, don't fear Palin, never accused you of being racist or sexist, simply can't be bothered with your nonsense any more.

Problem was, she had exactly the same laxative effect on moderate voters as well ;)

Hi Red/ The problem is, is that the otherside is flat out scared of her. Moderates can swing both ways and--as you well know-I guess? that many many people who never voted in a Pres/ election did so in this case-just because OLDD has proclaimed himself as black. Had that not been the case-I highly doubt that the vast majority of first time voters would have bothered to register and do their Civic duty-and go out and vote.

I make it a point to vote in every election of any level of Govt including, City, County, State and Federal. Those who don't get out and vote-have no right to complain.

Gents - please - can we try to keep things reasonably civil here ?

It used to be said that Politics was not a fit discussion for polite company (along with Religion ) and I think we can see why - it's something which friends can fall out over.:(

Most of us on here are intelligent people who are sure to have strong views about the performance of those who Govern us - but maybe we should focus a little more on discussion of WWII, which is after all the principal reason we're all here....?

Nobody is scared of Palin, genuinely, she is at worst a lunatic, at best simply a clown who makes Bush look like a genius.

Hi Martin, im trying my best to keep things sensable however, the other party needs to try to do the same. I already made a sort of promise to two other Mods and will make a public one to you as I respect you and all-that ill try to keep things as civil as possible.

    Best regards-Carl.

No you're not. You're anything but civil. You attack people with views different than yours. Respect is something you lack. See yourr response to Steffan. You start by saying "Ah, FINALLY a decent reply from you today that's worthy of using at least one Brain Cell to answer." This is offensive. And not respectfull at all. At least you could have the decency of being honest about yourself. Check out other answers you give. You always mock those who disagree with you just because you don't understand. That's the (one of the) definition of prejudice.

    Cheers...

Interesting looking back 5 years, and how a lot of the "I'm scared" points seem to be bang on.

Golliwog came out of nowhere during the discussion, and was amazed after googling the term to find the exact same bank found by my grandfather. Made in 1910.

Also, discussion got a little heated. Not sure mods would have allowed it to go that far today...Did the one guy call the other gay?- (swing both ways).

Gee thanks Poppy for dredging this one out of the basement. Here we made it pass the Mid-Terms and I thought "Whew, looks like we dodged a bullet" as far as politics raising it's ugly head. Also I wonder why just about everyone who posted a reply has moved on to greener pastures?

As for me? I'm going to go outside, smoke a cigar and listen to the lake make ice.

I remember when Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford went bare knuckles in the rose garden. It was a pretty clean fight until Carter pulled that knife, then it was a blood bath until Ford beat him unconscious with a bronze bust of Teddy Roosevelt. Carter was never the same after. There was the twitching and night terrors when he'd run screaming through the national mall in velvet pajamas, but that's normal for anybody from Georgia. Still, when he delivered the State Of The Union Address in Apache while wearing a banana hammock, I began to think; "Hey, maybe this guy isn't a good president..."
