True, nobody described the situation here,so it is hard 2 pick any exact weapon.Truth is that combination off all is the best, minefields on good spots,AT guns hidden in ambush and otther tanks for making distraction and kill oponent. But il try this way:for sherman-german armor is the best sherman killer on long range, coz of good optics, and high penetration+thick armor,so no sherman cant opose tiger I ,r panther on 1500-2000m.It is best scenario for that tanks,in closer combat sherman got fast turet mobility,so it is sutable for low range chase with otther tanks, and armor does not mean much in close combat,so there, heawy tanks like tiger I and panther r not sutable. But in that case,i presume that is arean highly tree covered,so it is good place for AT and infantry ambushes.
For tiger and pershing r bit diferent. That 2 AFV got tick and strong armor, and pretty good gun,so long range fight with them is bad choice. If i must do it n long range, only option is artilery shelling,r IL-2 sturmovik with some rocket r 37mm guns (they all got thin top armor) For close combat u can use whatewer u like, coz armor dont do much help then.Btw,major diference do u attack,r defense....

    Welcome to the forum, Sinissa!
On the Western Front the average engagement range for tanks was about 800 meters. At this distance the late-war variety of the Sherman had little difficulty fighting Tigers or Panthers, even though it was just as vulnerable itself.

The scenario does lack some details, like you point out, but in doing so it begs a different question altogether - not which weapon is best for which situation, but which is the best weighted average, or the most useful in all situations?

I think that something like that does not exist, atleast not in that time.On open field, and clear wetther i prefer air strikes, like IL-2,JU-87 stuka with 37mm guns,(Rudder scored more then 200 AFV kill if i remember good) but like i say it is highly limited. In defensive role,i think that AT guns r the best, and cheapest solution ,but when we look oweral for all situation anotther tank is the best tank killer.Good for offensive, and defensive situation, offroad mobile, but ur not in much advantage vs ur oponent tank.If i need 2 choose tank ,il prefer any medium tank,T-34/85,sherman,panther,coz i think that for attacking mobility is cruchial thing (offten on easter front T-34 pursue enemy alone coz KV-1,KV-2 heawy tanks did not got there on time).

How about an M10 tank destroyer with a 17 or 25 pounder mounted.
fast in, hit hard, fast out!

Actually, the British converted some M10s and M10A1s to Achilles Mk.IC and Mk. IIC tank destroyers by mounting the 17pdr in place of the 3inch gun. They were in service from early 1945 and were very succesful.
