Any "fans" of the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant chain?

If you love their chicken, well, it might just become a distant memory to you if you visited there. Reason being is that the corporation that bought the chain stores-is ""restructuring" which means that many of the KFC outlets in your area will be closing. I visited the place maybe a few times a year so this does not effect me as I like Churchs chicken much much better.

PS, I HATE Popeyes.

 

I tried KFC a few times never liked it, Since I only eat the Breast Meat.
In Canada we have many I wounder if this will affect us also. A well no big deal for Me

 

Im not much of a fast food junkie either. Especially MCDonalds-their stuff makes me wretch.

 

Well, I last visited a KFC while the Colonel was still in charge. The "original" hasn't been the same since he retired. I actually used to like their little "lunch box" size snacks.

For the latest artery clogging contribution look up the ingredients of the new "Double Down". Two hunks of deep fried chicken surrounding both bacon slices and cheese. None of them the "real deal" to my mind. Hybrid chicken, "cheese process food" (American slices), and hormone pumped up pig parts.

And then people wonder why Americans are "packing a few extra" pounds around? Sheesh.

 

Well, as a college student and married to my first wife, we survived off of KFC a couple of times a week in Austin. Our neighbor was a manager of a local KFC and he would bring the "left overs" home to share with us a couple nights a week. Believe me, it really help finance wise!

Nowadays, I still will look for KFC maybe once a month. Occasionally, the Chik-fil-a is a nice quick afternoon lunch on Saturdays. Popeye's went out of business at the local mall; not because of the food but probably due to the lack of service. No Church's around here, but they were good in Ohio back in the day!

 

Considering an employee of the one in my area felt the need to service himself into the special ingredients, I dont think I mind to much!

 

To myself, after 1972 when Heublein Inc. acquired the Kentucy Fried Chicken company and changed the name to the KFC Corporation, which was six or so years after Col. Sanders sold his share the whole "original recipe" took on a different texture if not flavor. It really started to run, not walk away from the original (to my palate) when KFC then became a subsidiary of "Joe Camel's"; R.J. Reynolds Industries, Inc. (RJR Nabisco, Inc.) in ’82.

This abomination then became even less flavorful when even Reynolds/Nabisco dumped the company into the giant conglomerate of Pepsico in 1986. I don’t know who is in charge anymore, but the Colonel (who used to throw surprise inspections to check on gravy making in his franchises) must be spinning at about 1000 rpms in his grave. The quality and flavor of the brand is no better than any other giant fast-food chain, and worse than others.

 

I like KFC but eat their maybe 2 or 3 times a year, not much. In most of Canada Taco Bell and KFC share locations together so sometimes I might pick something up from the Colonel on my Taco Bell runs.

As an KFC related aside, did anyone catch South Park last week?

Smothered in sauce...down the hatch. Just make sure your in dashing distance of the toilet.

As for KFC, the last time I was in one many years ago bought a corn on the cob covered in melted butter not bad but a bit messy.

 

Popeye's is the best fried chicken, the spicey variety that is. If spicey food burns your widdle tummy, then go to KFC. It has no seasoning, flavor or taste. You might as well be eating at Picadilly. Churches is ok, if there's not a Popeye's around. And I have yet to figure out why Raisin' Canes (a local Baton Rouge company) is even in business, much less getting bigger as it spreads across the south like kudzu....

PS, dont get me started on Taco Bell - which BTW, was so highly profiled in Demolition Man. That place has no clue what even bad Mexican food tastes like let alone what "real" Mexican food is. Flat out-they SUX. I tried them a few times around 15 years ago-have not since then.

PS, for Tex, when you get to Austin-try Chuys-which has I think two stores here and one is near my house-about 3-4 blocks away. I go there at least once a week, sometimes more depending on whether or not I made Carinos on the day I set aside to eat lunch there. If no Chuys-then try Cheddars. I did so for the first of hopefully many many times-just this past Sunday. Man their food was I had their Chicken Pot Pie-and it tasted homemade.

PS, someone above mentioned Wendys-I ate there today mainly because I was out paying bills in the area and had not had much to eat all day. I had one of their Bacon Cheeseburgers and it really hit the spot. As you can tell, I love Wendys even if their burgers are fried instead of grilled like Burger Kings burgers are. WHa ticks me off at where I live, there is no Burger Kind within a respectful distance of my house soooo-Wendys beats them out.

Chuys tomorrow for Happy hour. No-I dont get any alcoholic drinks, but if you go there between 4-7PM, you can hit their tortillia chips bar-which is made out of the rear end of some old car-and you can get meat, cheeses, Mexican Pickles (aka) Jalepeno Peppers, some sort of hot sauce which really is good but id rather have the free cheese and meat.

 

Never had Taco Bell in the States but I'm sure it's different since all my American friends tell me it's horrible, I'm sure it must be different! It's pretty hard to find authentic Mexican food here though. =/

 

Hi Mehar, you have some wise Ami friends ;-)) Taco Bell food is fit for pigs in muddy pig pens. For one, you HAVE to order their ten taco package-just to make sur eyou get enough to fill ya. None of their Burrits taste anything like a real Burrito and I tried one once and they had some sort of horrible sauce they put in ti and I couldnt finish eating the thing because it was so bad. I managed to eat maybe half ot it then I threw it out to see if any stray Cats would dine on it-but nope. The only thing that nibbled on it were a couple of Opossums-and opossums eat dirt and excriment.

 

i eat kentucky fried chicken only once or twice a year. it is soo bad for you.. it's so greasy and salty. but it tastes really good!

it's 2 pieces of bacon, 2 pieces of cheese, and secret sauce in between two pieces of fried chicken. No bread! how far will these fast food chains go to create the most unhealthy high fat foods...It's getting a little rediculous. then again people demand it.. then we wonder why obesity and heart disease rates are so high.

No loss. I love Church's. Larger pieces and better tasting. KFC must be using pigeons instead of chickens...have you seen their wings? Besides, I have seen KFC insert some mystery pieces as well.

 

The KFC here closed after a fire...I know the owners pretty well and they said that the company wouldn't let him re-open unless he agreed to do a KFC/Taco Bell combo like many of them are going to now. I would have liked that but there was no way with the current location that it could have been done. We don't have much for choices around here so KFC was a nice change of pace every now and then.

 

That is that "double down" thing I was referring to in my first post here. I can almost hear left ventricles slamming shut all over the nation!
