The attempt to recruit American POWs into the ranks of the Waffen SS failed. The very few who used the opportunity to escape. I have read of Americans with German parents who went back to Germany to fight. But they don't really count and there was not a special unit formed just for them.

Yesh, European Muslims with a very diluted form of religion, being given the 'German Salute' by Yasser Arafat's uncle would likely feel rather strange to them ;)

I recall two of the SS divsions recruited in the Balkans were disbanded in 1944 due to very bad discipline, not meeting training standards, neglecting their weapons, desertion.
