you beat me on that one Kai. I agree that October 1944 would be correct. I believe this would be after the German final surrender of the city, on October 22nd.

the man holding the horse is an aide de camp. Zhukov had better things to do then walk around with a present for Bradely. I will try to find out the name (a difficult quest ) . The date could be June 1945 (around Potsdam?)

    Patton? [WAGOOMB]

    ...and wasn't that Konev
    [IMG]

    rather than Zhukov?

    From Time.com

In World War II Konev commanded the north flank of Zhukov's famous counterattack which thrust the Germans back from Moscow in December 1941. Assigned to the Kursk front, he commanded the Second Ukrainian Army, which breached the German defenses and liberated Belgorod and Kharkov. In 1944 he won his greatest victory at Korsun-Shevchenkovsky, where in mud and blizzard his Soviet force encircled and destroyed ten German divisions. From there he went on to force the Dnieper, the Bug and the Dniester, and after liberating North Moldavia, his troops crossed Poland and became the first Russians to reach the Elbe, where his 58th Guards Division linked up with the U.S. 69th Division. Here Konev met General Bradley, presented him with a Cossack charger (the name Konev is derived from kon, a stallion).
It appears that your photo may be mis-labeled.

    -whatever

I think it would rather be a Russian name like "Tsar" or "Dawai"

On the bottom of the photograph says 'Zhukov' - looks like my fathers handwriting and not that of the photographers. Very possible that my Father mis-labeled. Hard to believe though b/c he was the 'KING' of WW 2 stuff. He is probably rolling around in his grave right now - a man that never liked to be corrected. :)

On the first trio of photos that's not Zhukov, but another Marshall which I'll be able to identify in due course (they were not that many). In the pic mentioned above it's Zhukov, yes, and Mar. Rokossovsky.

What a treasure of pics you have! You give a me new definition for the word "Envy" :)
