I am half American. I have been there many times. Sure, you said except genocide but I repeat: Do you think Iraq is a world war? The fact that you would like Saddam to be put back in power and want to blow up random buildings with an RPG speaks for itself it seems.

What about preventive war. That stupid argument wasn't used since WW2 (Norge, Russia). Most war's need at least a pretext (casus belli) even if it's imagenary one (Poland). Even no declaration of war is better than this. If these idiots think they are setting a "bright" example they should make an appointment with a shrink (or boy's that will bring them a new white shirt with long sleeves). Imagine India and Pakistan with all their problems and their nukes or N. and S. Korea or China and Taiwan.... lead by "bright" US example, start their preventive wars.

About concentration camps: How about Abu Graib and a couple of other jails around the world?

I can mention countries that have had prisons in that same style, yet I see no parallels being drawn between them and Nazi Germany. Russia, China, Great Britain directly postwar*. If Abu Graihb and Iraq make the US into a "Nazi Germany", the US certainly are not alone.

*(Recently, some documents have been uncovered showing a Norwegian/Russian spy working FOR the USSR being tortured by the British in 1947 with cold bathing/beatings. Does that make Britain a fascist country?)

What does fascism have to do with that?

That is a typo, as I meant to write "Nazi". The point still stands, as you are comparing to fascist sides of Nazi Germany and present-day America. You simply cannot say that Bush is a Nazi, since he supports Israel, has a multiethnic army, doesn't have extermination programs, et cetera. Thus you are accusing him of fascism, and this fascism is a relevant point in the discussion.

There's a big difference between abberations like Abu Ghraib and random mass imprisonment on grounds of sheer expediency. One could only accuse the US of being like Nazi Germany if the American government started to imprison Democrats, Neoconservatives and Muslims in mass camps where they would be abused and forced to work until they starved.

To quote a good friend of mine who I discussed this with, he said:

Thus I can seewhere you are coming from, but I still find the comparison silly.

A concentration camp is a large detention center created for political opponents, enemy aliens, specific ethnic or religious groups, civilians of a critical war-zone, or other groups of people, often during a war. The United States of America does not have concentration camps in 2006, nor does it have labor or death camps.

Concentration camps were invented, IIRC, by the British in the Boer war. Stalin had them in the form of Siberian labor camps and the Gulag, Hitler had them and innovated with medical expiriments and mass ovens.

Abu Graihb is not a concentration camp. It has prisoners of war, not political opponents (Democrats) or target specific ethnic or religous groups. Nobody is in Abu Graihb simply for being Mexian, Muslim, or Swedish, or whatever.

The USA has had someting that reminds me of a concentration camp, namely Andersonville during the Civil War.

    Gunter:
Could you present some arguments showing that Abu Graihb fit the established criteria for concentration camps?

That statement is self-contradictory. If they are similar, they will have similar criteria. If you can not show me any source-proven parallels, then you have lost.

    This is what you said:
You're the one trying to compare Bush to Hitler; in order for your argument to stand, you will have to make it credible that Bush's America has things in common with Hitler's Germany. You were the one who brought up Guantanamo Bay as an example of this. Therefore, when asked, you will have to provide some substance to back up your claim that Guantanamo Bay is comparable to a German concentration camp.

Panzerman: having to adjust or withdraw one's statement should not be considered "losing", because it makes people much more reluctant to do so.

But a Sherman is similair to a Tiger is it not? Actually this is kinda more on flaming the discovery chanel so I will stop there. Maybe in another topic about the Discory chanels's program ultimate machines.

    Okey time to backtrack.

Both have prisoners held without charges against them
    prisoners are tortured
most prisoners are of an ethnic minorty to that country

They do not have anything in common? What about the 47+ million of Americans of german heritage?
    Both fought "wars of aggresion"

A vary famous person said that.

both helping out the economy by created arms for military, kin Bushes case startyign a war. "War is Good for the economy" was a popular qoute with comedic skits with Bush.
    -routinely ignored his military
    -ignored other world leaders
    -ignoring the church
0start a war to take away from domestic problems
    -both were elected
    -both were in armed forces
-both nations were at the times the war started fanatically patriotic
-9/11 used similairly to Burning of the Reichstag
-before WWII Hitler met with some Muslims, oh look bush did too before he started the war
enought for u? No okey lets keep going till I get tired.
-both took rights from the people Normenburg laws and patriot acts are examples
-both setting in federal judges that woudl agree with their policies
-Reichstag fire Hitler seen as savior of the nation, 9/11 Bush the leader who would avange and lead the nation.
-Americans get their propogand from the news, the Germans from radios
-in their wars both are fighting Guerilla units
-undesirables Jes, Gypsies, Bush peopel of Middle East
okey im a bit tired now, happy soem similarities of which 1 or 2 has to do with concentration camps. The comparison does of Bush to Hitler does not need what you have states

I NEVER SAID BUSH WAS HITLER, its called compar and contrast. its like saying you can't compare Fascism to Communis, American Capitalism to Soviet Communism.

The Roosevelt and Eisenhower, you can compare anthing with another things, you are the one trying to twist my words and make me say that Bush is Hitler.

Never said he was a Nazi

You ask me to state similarities, and you have anya dn your looking liek whats the point of em saying it, for goodness sake u asked for similarities and you got soem adn than you wonder why i put them in my post.

    similarities

How can you ever compare the events of today with the events [in Nazi death camps]? If it ever gets to the like of these you'll have something to worry about.

Well, now you're arguing. It is necessary to bring up similarities between present-day US and Nazi Germany in order for your argument to stand; that is why I told you to name them, and so you did. That is, if it is indeed your argument that Bush is like Hitler. You said you could compare the two, so you have to provide grounds. You can, like you said, compare apples to cars but it would be a very short comparison: "apples are not like cars", period.

As to the content of your arguments: some of them have some value, others are pure nonsense. The fact that people of German heritage lived in Germany in the 1930s as well as in the USA today has nothing to do with either Bush or Hitler. Bush has fought wars of aggression on dictatorships, Hitler on democratic states. A meeting with Muslims can hardly be considered relevant to Hitler's ensuing career. Both Bush and Hitler were elected; however Bush can only sit in office for a maximum of two more years and after that he can never lead the country again. Hardly comparable to Hitler's immediate assumption of the position of dictator for life. As to your other points: they apply to both leaders but you must ask yourself if that really makes them comparable.

TD. You know nothing of what would happen if Muslims would rule the world. As far as I know, no Muslim leader no matter how extremist has called for the extermination of all Christians (Jews, granted). And since you're participating in the thread and making your opinion known, I hardly believe you think this thread sucks, otherwise you would have ignored it, am I not right?

Panzerman. Saying "yawn" is hardly a counterargument. Do not accuse your opponent in a debate of racism either, it leads nowhere.

Merlin. I have removed the pictures of the dead found in Bergen-Belsen to make sure this forum remains friendly to viewers of all ages, but I hope my adaptation of your message still brings your point across. If you have these pictures online somewhere you could post a link to them for people who are interested.
