No, it's Gunter's opinion, not "some liberal junk". And besides, all sides of the political spectrum are allowed to utter their opinions, no matter how ridiculous, without being considered "liberal junk" offhand.

I would also like to point out that it is the Conservatives who represent the economic and political theories of Liberalism in the US.

Maybe if you'd look into the ideas of Liberalism you'd find them strangely appealing, any Republican probably would. That's exactly what I'm saying. ;)

I get a facefull of the ideas of liberalism quite often, Roel; they get thrown in my face by those who espouse them. Which ideas of liberalism are you specifically talking about?

Yes, indeed, you find them constantly in speeches of types like George W. Bush...

Liberalism is the political philosophy of liberty. It propagates economic, political, religious and ideological freedom, a small state ruled democratically, freedom for the individual, the rule of law and so on. Whenever you say the state should keep its hands out of your business, you're being Liberal. Whenever you say trade should not be impeded by the government, you're Liberal. Whenever you say people should learn to take care of themselves, you're Liberal. Whenever you say the people should be in control of the government because they know what's best for them, you're Liberal. As far as I know, these ideas are commonly associated with the Republicans in the US...

The people you call "Liberals" are in fact progressive-liberals or social-liberals.

Indeed, as has been expressed many times on this topic, the comparison ends at 'Male, elected leaders of a country'.

There has been a lot of quite good debate on here, all along those lines, and one could almost (when squinting in bad light) see it as educational...

That's what I wanted: clarification. Thank you, Roel. I would not, however, call them "progressive". But that's just my opinion. ;)

And what enlightened corner of the globe might you be from? I agree with you about Bush being an idiot, and I'll go along with 80% of Americans if you also mean 80% of the human race.

As preposterous as there being more than a superficial likeness (i.e. both being world leaders) between Bush and Hitler really is, I have a joke I would like to post. I really do apologize if this has been posted before (I imagine it has several times) but I don't have the time to check its originality.

Q:What's the only difference between Bush and Hitler?

A: Hitler was elected! har har har:lol:

The reason I won't compare Bush to Hitler is for the simple fact that Bush is going to be nothing more than history in two and a half short more years. Everyone, you can expect to say a ceremony commerating the event at my house November, 2008, and you are all invited.

Not a problem. I find this topic very useful to defuse any such comparisons in the future. Just showing once how untenable a comparison between Hitler and Bush is, makes it clear that it will never need to be attempted again.
