Hi Andy, I got all of these from ebay. Each is definately the original which I can say for 100% sure also because i've dealt with all of these dealers in the past and they don't mess with repo or suspecious pics. I did see a number of rpos listed and I was told by three different Ebay people-that they do their best at making sure everybody is as accurate as possible w/ their descriptions and claims. Also, it is against the law in certain countries to mis-represent or flat out lie-about items for sale. I get a good number of pics fromRussia, and a number from a dealer iv'e dealt with for years-who is in Florida. Skipperlisted below some good ways to tell if original or not-someof the pics im getting do have writing on back as well as various photographic stamps such as Agfa, Agfa-Lupez-and someI never had had any from before-that I will now;- 00 There's still bargains to be had-even on ebay-you just have to know where to look, when, and whom you feel comfortable in dealingwith. I have severalpic dealers I will buy from-and several I will not. Currently there are a few selling items that are original pix on CDs-and or high glossy reprints and such-those I will not buy-even if each pic was listed for a buck. I could do the samething by havingmy collection on photo CDs-then put them up for sale- but I will not. ;-)) Anyway, that onetime I got shafted-was one of my first buying experiances on ebay-and I got shafted by a guy in Canada-who was supposed tosend mean original Lobby Card fromthe movie: Where Eagles Dare-which showed Clint Eastwood with a knife to a German throat. That F****r intentionally mis-represented that item-soI gave the guy neg feedback.
Hi E,some do-but I just can't think of which off-hand-cept for that pic showing PsGdrs mounting Panzers-which is a pic taken on one of the first days fighting at Kursk. I have the info writtendown as to which Pz Div those guys were in and will post it later after I finish writing it down which will probably be tomorrow before I can get to do so. So far, im clueless about that LW RKT pic. The only thing I know for sure about the General is tat he is commander of whatever airfield they are at. I was hoping there was enough in the pic that would help give you a better idea on it ) since you know way much more about the LW-than I could probably ever learn ;-))
If you have Stalingrad: Cauldron of Fire-the picis on its cover lower left and center. I've seen it in a few other titles-just don't remember which ones? Also, when I have time to think about it,I know a guy who has published a few E/Front books whom I am going to contact and see if he can tell me more details to that pic. This guy also has the best website i've seen yet-about Stalingrad.
Gents' am just going to throw this out to ya for comment. in the LW RK pic. note the RK Offizier congrats the two recipients, is that a Rumanian order on his lower right side of his tunic. also note aide de Cap or ? right sleeve cuff band. I truly doubt this is a Fighter pilot RK ceremony but could be one of the StG Stuka units and two bomber boyz are receving their RK's on the Ost front ........... when have no clue ? I say this as the farthest one in the Offiziers cap also has a ranked up number clasp on his upper left tunic E ~
Hi E, I deliberately got this pic w/ you in mind. :-D Also, Im probably wrong on the badge on his right pocket but I THINK its an airfield commanders badge. The center part of that badge with the "S' on it I THINK is red in color. I wish I had time to do research tonight on whether its a Rumanina badge or not? PS,my run-down on these 17 pics will be done tomorrow. I spent too much time today fighting with a dealer who is going to be selling pictures from photo-albums-seperately. One such album is froman Officer serving on the staff of the 5th Geb Division and has 44 shots of General Julius "Papa" Ringel in them. If he starts selling these off-im going to try getting as many of them as I can afford-which I really can't afford any of them. There goes the rest of my savings. :headbang:
Ok folks, here is the info I have on hand about these pics. Aso there is a MAJOR correction that has to be made about one of the pics that has a tank in it. I mislabled it as a Sturmtiger-because the info I saw posted that was about this photo-was wrong. However, thanks to a few books I have-the wrong info is now corrected. Pic 1) EkII awards ceremony-pic 1 of 2 pics-the unit is currently unkn. Pic 2) An Infantry GeFr in wintertime in Russia just newly awarded both the EKII & the Inf Assault Badge in Silver. Pic 3) A Panzer III on a typical Russian dirt road in the Summer of 1942-still awaiting an email to come in that tells me more about this pic as well as the other PZIII pics I got. It turns out that each of the PZIII pics I got were all to the same Panzer Division and from the same soldier who took these pics. Pic 4) Thanks to Erichs keen eye for detail-this is a 2nd pic that is from the same awards ceremony as is in the 1st pic posted. Pic 5) Panzer IIIS passing through a small rural town in Poland in 1939. Pic 6) What had previously been mis-labled as a Sturmtiger-also by me because of the sellers mis-id of the type of tank in the pic-and im no expert on armor. This tank is a BRUMMBAR (Grizzly Bear) which served and saw action with Sturmpanzer Abt. 216-of the 21st Panzer Brigade that was part of Army Group Centers 9th Army. 66 of these were assembled and went into battle for the first time at Kursk. My picture as it turns out-is THE original picture seen in several books about Kursk-and one that I have is by Nik Cornish-and is called: Images of Kursk and the pic can be seen on page 43. This tank was armed with a 150mm gun.
Pic 7) Pic 1 of 2 pics showing 3 newly "minted" Infantry RKTs-who were awarded theirs by a General who also is an RKT. The tall officer also seen in both photos-is a recipient of the DKiG and I suspect later-the RK as well. Notice the Generals WWI Airship Badge? ;-)) Pic 8) Stalingrad combat photo-also a well documented photo and was used in several books about the battle. Stalingrad: A Cauldron of Fire--for one title ;-)) Pic 9) An Infantry Squad fans out across a field as it heads out on their mission. Pic 10) A photo of a Russian woman flipping the European/Asian version of the American F-U one-fingered "salute." This pic was taken either in Kiev itself in 1944-or in a small city near Kiev. Pic 11) PzIII stuck in a huge shellhole somewhere in Russia. This pic is part of the same grouping of pics I have which have Pz IIIs in them. Pic 12) Panther tank. This Panther was in the 52nd PZ Abt-of the 10th Panzer Brigade which attacked Cherkasskoye--Battle of Kursk. This Panthers track was most likely damaged because of entering into one of the vast minefields that were part of this heavily fortified and defended area. Pic 13) Pic Nr 2 and companion to Pic Nr 7. Pic 14) Pic showing two officers-one with RK-who are either Father and Son-or Brothers. Pic 15) Shows two newly "minted" LW RKTs-along with the General & RKT-who is the Commander of the Airfield that this ceremony took place at. I am no foreign badge exert but it's been pointed out that the badge the General wears on his right pocet-could be Rumanian-and im of the belief that it could be that also-as well as it could also be the very rare Airfield Commanders badge? Pic 16) Panzergrenadiers hitching a ride into battle at the Battle of Kursk. This pic is also related to the others with the Pz IIIs in them. Pic 17) Four new recipients of the Infantry Assault Badge in Silver. Das ist alle fur now ;-))
let me share what # 15 is all about for those of you who are interested. Carl is the proud owner of a photo two StG 2 RK awardee's in April of 1944 at Husi, Rumania (this ought to get me 100 salutes !! ) ok C are you ready ? The Geschwader is in parade formation as the Chief of Luftflotte 3, Generaloberst Otto Dessioch ( not airfield commander ) praises the accomplishments of the StG 2 so far in it's illustrious career. Dress order ....... The Air fleet chief and Geschwaderkommodore Obstlt. Steep review the Geschwader inlcuding Rudels III. gruppe. The Air Fleet chief wearing the Rumanien order presents the RK to Staffelkapitän Kurt Lau - offiziers cap and pilot Feldwebel H. Meyering who was wounded in the face wearing bandage over his right eye. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The right armed cuff title on the wearer on the earlier posting gave it away to me being a possible StG unit Carl ........ so there is the full story behind your very nice RK winners photograph v/r E ~
Allow me a few hours Erich ,but you could be right I will need to check a few books as I was actually thinking about Hungary , but you may well be right with the Romanian insignia.
Great photos Carl! In post #4, the last pic, those boys look so young! I like the truck pic as well, very detailed!
so Skipper or anyone out there, what is the consensus of the order that is worn by the General on his lower right of the tunic ?
And s you will get soon as the site lets me award them ;-)) Great show on the info for this pic--it's great to put places and names and such to these pics. :-D Im also going to attempt to give ya rep points too :-D :-D:-D
CArl evidently fat man Göring also received this award. it could possibly have been this in the German :: Komturkreuz der Kgl. Rumän. Aeronautischen Tugend mit der Kriegsdekoration und Schwertern still searching and glad to help out
Thank you Scott, and there are about 9-10 more of these from this batch to be seen here. Just today I got two nice DAk photos. One pic shows a Pz III column moving down some desert road. Pic 2 shows several DAK soldiers being awarded their EKIIs. Great shot of their uniforms and almost sun-bleached white-DAK M-43 caps. Hi E, im going to ask Frank to see if he will come here to look at that pic-I'll bet that he knows what that badge is for certain-or can ask a few well-known collector friends of his who live on the West Coast. Im also going task Brian if he can check around as well.
compare closely my eyes suck today too many cancer meds taken, is it similar to the ones on the left of the pic ? or similar too, pilot and observer badges - aka Romania hopeful the ones on the left are clear enough to make a distinction, what ya think C, the one on the far left looks like a match ?? E ~
Hi E, many thanks and im greatful for the help. Im going to try snagging some good KM S-Boat and U-boat pics when that dealer gets around to placing them up for sale. Also, i'm going to try to get some LW pics and some pics of V-1 and V-2 Rocket sites. All of th is depends on when that other dealer starts placing up those Ringle pics though. Winning a lottery about now wouldbe nice ;-)) Then I could afford to make an offer on several GebJag pic and doc lots-that the guy has.
Hi E, I agree, the far left one looks like a match to me as well ;-)) I wish the pic was already here so I could use my Jewelers Loop to look at it through. I just thought about it and if he had been wearing an Airfield Commanders bage-though we know he isn't an airfield Co) that that badge would be worn on his left pocket and not his right.
Hi E, a little extra tid-bit for you about those youngsters who were awarded their Silver IABs. That pic is dated April 20th? 1945. Will confirm soon as I get it in. Notice the serious (and complete) lack of real Vets among them.
