Hi Skipper, much appreciated. I can only just make out von Rundstedts name and part of another. I'd love to know who that other RKT is. I haven't had time to try looking through my copy of Fellgiebels RKT book to try to compare. Ill try to do that later today. Take care Skipper-and im about to leave for the evening-its past bedtime ;-))
Hello Carl, well I be darned, how could I miss out on that thread? a whole load of really very interesting photos. Carl, the Luftwaffe photo you posted under post#4, does it have any information on the back as to unit or maybe a persons name? Regards Andy
Thanks Carl! I was able to log in today so finally got to see them! Awesome! Love the mountain shot, and the football pics too!
Hi Andy, Scott, Skipper, Thanks Andy, all sin is forgiven to you because we know you were still in Imperial times ;-)) but thank you my friend, these WWII pics needed your viewing ;-)) Hi Scott, glad you got to see these. In about 2 more weeks, all of my pics will finally be scanned to photo CDs except for my pics of my visit with the U 181 vets, RKT Remy Schrijnen, Uboat Archiv as well as My friend Karl Kaisers DKiG award Ceremony pics and other U 181 stuff including Wolfgang Luth (his first Uboat CO) Skipper, just last night I got a call from the gent who is copying all of my remaining pics to 1-2 more CDs. He told me it should take him about 2 or so more weeks to get them all done and they will by on Kodak photo CDs ;-)) As soon as I get another call from him, I will update you about them and will let you know what I know. Also, he will be making me I think two extra copies of these CDs and at that time, I will be sending them to you along with that Luftschutz 3-piece "Gladiator" Helmet ;-)) Those photo CDs will have a bunch of pics not yet posted along with a bunch you have posted but will be clear of any dealers markings. I don't think the guy is copying the backs of the pics so I might have to do that at another time. The von Rundstedt pic and a few others with writings on their backs-the writing is so difficult to make much of anything out but-one pic in particular that I got back in Feb from Huesken--is the one with 13 Soldiers Officers, NCOs and Enlistedmen-of a Pioneer unit that were all awarded various grades of Iron Crosses by their Division Commander-who was a Generalleutnant-and who is not seen in the photo. Anyway, this photo has excellent handwriting on the backside listing lastnames and what award each man was awarded. This one I do know was scanned on one of the photo cds that I previously made. These I will have to make extra copies of and will do so so that I can send you a CD of most of my pics at the same time. Hi Andy, ill have to go back and try to find that pic your asking about and get back with you on it. I can't think of which one it is off-hand but will look as soon as I post this post. Erich found out some great info for me on a few of the LW pics-such as that Stuka DKiG gent who was KiA somewhere on the Russian Front. The story behind his pics being slpit up and sold seperately really is VERY sad. The dealer had some 100+++ of his pics (that I know of) and also about 40 of his letters to huis Wife, and some Documents and such-and the dealer split them all up. I tried to keep some 25-or so of the photos together but wound up getting only 3-4 thanks to computer probs and lack of internet service at the time. Im still peeved about missing on the pics I wanted the most. I also noticed that the dealer who split up these pics-did not sell off all of those pics to this Pilot yet--and must have kept the better pics for himself or to sell at a later date. Reason I know this is because a few pics I paid for never arrived and I was compensated with a nice shot of ths Stuka pilot wearing his DKiG. Hi Scott, I love that shot too. I just barely mised out on a great shot of the samekind that was of a GJ NCO wearint Binoculars and in full gear-striking a killer pose showing his left foot on a large boulder, rifle across his back, Luger pistol in his right hand-and Ice Pick in his left hand. That was a killer of a shot and I barely mjissed out on it thanks to a slow computer. That ahot as well as the mountain shot were both part of the same grouping that include 20 pics and that Regimentstagesbefehl doc.
C.Evans the photo of the flag ceremony and the one of the men in front of the french chatueau is quite amazing, along with the rest of them.
Hi Andy, a lot of images have dissappeared I guess because the dealers took them off the site? Anyway, the only LW pic I still see is the one with the Officer who just decorated two LW gents with their RKs. Is this the pic your talking about? If so, I know listed on one of these pages-by Erich, the name of the KDT and I think even the Airfield they were at. I can't recall if he also listed the names of those two newly minted RKTs or not? This thread takes forever to load for me so I will try again in the morning to see if I can find Erichs info about that pic. Erich is amazing also because he was also able to give me info on that Stuka Pilot DKiG gent-though I had no info to give to him to go on ;-)) Oh and, since posting them (2 pics showing a General and three new minted RKTs as well as a Major with the DKiG) I still have as yet to recieve the info from the dealer about that unit represented but at least I have a few clues to go on that might help me ID the unit. But before I attempt to do that, I still need to cross-reference my Fellgieble RKT book with some other stuff I have on hand and or can find on the net. Some things I know as definate facts on those two pics, is that the General was indeed a Generalleutnant (at time of pic) that it was a line Infnatry Division-not a Security, Static ot other type of Div) that this Division spent most of its combat career on the Eastern Front-which wasn't unusual but still makes it slightly easier to narrow down the Dicision some) and I have an approx date. Im not committing to the info I THINK is correct-that is untill I can cross-reference all of the infantry RKTs in the Divisions I BELIEVE these men were in. It sure would make it so much easier if I knew who the General is for sure. I do have an idea of whom I believe he is because I recently saw somewhere-more pics or either newsreel footage of this General and partly based on these newsreel footage of said General-I know for a fact that he commanded a division that saw extensive and severe combat service on the Eastern Front but off-hand-cannot remember what were all the Divisional-sized units he commanded during the war. Thank you FG ;-)) As for the 82nd Airborne Div pics. These were the only ones I could save that were part of yet another grouping that Rick split up. I tried to get more of the Football Team pics too but--the darn computer was working very slow and ai got sniped on them. At that time these were offered was when i was also trying to keep as many of the 79th GJ AR pics together as I could. Out of at least 80 or so for sale at that time, I managed to save only 20 of those pics. Dealers like this guy really piss me off. I have not bought any from him for about 6 weeks now, and one wonders what goodies I missed out on-but I don't regret it either. The last four pics I got were all nice to mediocre at best but-I got them cheap enough. These are: (not pictured----yet) 1) a Great photo of a Desert Rats Mortar Team loading a round into their Mortar. This photo according to the dealer was part of a group of pics that were supposedly captured by the German Soldiers whose estate he gleefully split apart forever-thanks to wanting that all-mighty buck. Anyway, this photo was allegedly "liberated" by this soldiers whose album was ripped apart. No writing on the back of this pic. 2) A decent pic showing a Stuka and it's crew. 3) PK press photo of a German Minesweeper doing it's duty. 4) A Rangefinder in usage somewhere on the French Coast.
Carl let me know on the Stuka award winners if you can't find the info we may have to dig deep again ' will be interested in your PK Minesweeper pic doing "it's thing ..... post away !
Thanks Thompson, E, Scott, th30/ Hi E, I'll try to get the last four pics to the guy whose making my photo CDs for me-hopefully by this time next week. If I can't then? it'll be awhile before I can get the last few on a CD. However, I guess i could place the last few on one for ya if you want? I almost forgot about that Stuka Pilot DKiG gent. I did get "a" final pic in of this guy-one that I didn't win but was for "payment" for one I was charged for twice-and this one is a nice clear shot of him with his DKIG. The other Stuka pic I don't think has anything to do with this guy? but I may be wrong ;-)) Hi Scott, sadly, all I have bought since getting many of these above-is only four pics. Im having a difficult time trying to get more from Rick because my computer is working ultra slow for some reason? and I keep missing out on great pics-many for under $2 bucks each. Im not giving up though, I still take a peek at what he has for sale and up for auction and I might get lucky again ;-)) Hi th30/ About 1/4th of my stuff I got from various sellers on ebay and over the period of probably 2 or so years. One selled I can name off-hand is a guy by the name of Joe Imwalle. I don't know if he has a regular site you can visit? or not? but he has a lot of pics for sale-most are just run-of-the-mill-pics and i've seen few really great pics from him lately. I bought appx another 1/4th of these from Militaria dealers like Andre Huesken and Weitze, and many of the others from a guy by the name of Rick White who is in Florida. Rick had both a website and sells on Ebay and this guy has great offerings most of the time. Even some of his not so great items are better than average run-of-the-mill-pics mostly up for sale or auction.
Up for sale are quite a few very interesting pics. These range from several that show an RK award ceremony-to some Combat pics to destroyed tanks and other Armored vehicles to award ceremonies for the Silver IAB as well as EKII, some Imperial stuff showing recipients of botht eh Grand Cross of the Iron Cross and Poul le' Merite recipients to destroyed, captured or merely knocked out T-34, T-35s, KV1s and KV2s-and some other interesting pics. I WILL be getting what I can out of these-just not sure yet what im going to concentrate on getting yet.
Cool photos as always. Love the football uniforms. Check out the 407th Raiders: 407th Raiders Football Team in occupied Europe right after the war.
Thank you and thanks for posting that link, those too are some nice photos. Oh and if your interested, some very nice pics of US and British Soldiers just came up for sale. The Brit pics allegedly were captured by whomever the German Soldier was whose photo albums are being sold. The American pics are from American Soldiers photo albums-some are VERY nice.
Hi Skipper, Andy, ) im happy as a Peach Pie on these. I got them for a fair price as prices go and these are great. The four with them wearing the white camo-were sold seperately but were originally a group. The two Panzer EKII award pics were twoof five-I couldn't get the rest of them because my computer kept freezing up so I got sniped on the two Pz ceramony pics I wanted the most-however, the two I got are almost as nice. Thank you for posting them for me Skipper, and I might try for a few more tonight? Andy, thank you as well, glad you liked the winter camo. I love it and these are I think the only shiots I have of this type of them wearing those reversable Parkas. I almost bought one o those recently and are still thinking about doing so ;-)) As for unit info on these? I sent an email to the dealer but have yet to be replied to. Im hoping he knows at least what division those Panzer guys were from? One of his assistants did tell me that they had thought these were from the 2nd Kompanie 1st Panzer Regiment-which just about blew my mind when I heard that. I don't know if you guys rememer or not? but I have a roster of all the men who were in that same Company and Regiment. ) I HOPE that it ill be confirmed and soon. I especially love the 2nd shot with the Panzer guys-showing a close-up of the EKIIs as well as the Panzer Collartabs w/ skulls as well as of them wearing their Panzer Wraps. Im going to be searching for more like these and will try to get them. I figure I got all these pics for about 1/6th the price most dealers would price these at-or even more for that matter ;-)) Hi Andy, I forgot to repy to your E/Front Question-but yep-Ost Front it certianly is ;-)) Im not sure on the two Pz pics yet. Im still waiting for the seller to get back to me for the info but--I THINK these men were also a part of the 1st Panzer Battalions 2nd Kompanie--I THINK???
I just noticed that in the first pic with the officer with the white camo helmet-that he's being awarded the 1939 EKI Spange to his 1914 EKI. Also, you will notice that he alread has double awardings for the EKII as well ;-)) The 2nd Pz pic-I love the details you can see on the Officers Overseas cap. The more I stare at these, the more I like em ;-D PS, I forgot to add-the men wearing the white Camo were most likely awarded these either in the winter of 41 or winter of 42 at the latest. I can make out the enlisted ranks collartabs on the bottleneck green backing material. These are absolutely beautiful.
