Churchill 'Crocodile' tanks and the SS

I have heard claims that shotguns were banned under the Geneva Convention, but I've not found any evidence for this.
As far as I'm aware its not illegal to use shotguns in combat, and the only real reason they weren't deployed by the major armies in WW2 was due to the weapons shortcomings in normal combat
