you got it dg, they are in at 23. BYU dropped fairly far and what a jump TCU made this week. I kinda felt Maryland would make it back in as well. It will be interesting to see the BCS rankings this week
3 ACC teams but at least BC is among them. Maryland is deserving of some votes, too. If the Terrapins had not lost to Virginia earlier this year, they would be in the top 25 as well.
I am amazed that Alabama did not drop following that lackluster showing in the second half of the Ole Miss game. They stunk it up but good.
And here is the first week of the BCS Rankings. The only difference in the top 5 is USC, who managed to squeak in there. A few other major differences are here as well. 1. Texas 7-0 2. Alabama 7-0 3. Penn State 8-0 4. Oklahoma 6-1 5. USC 5-1 6. Oklahoma State 7-0 7. Georgia 6-1 8. Texas Tech 7-0 9. Ohio State 7-1 10. Florida 5-1 11. Utah 8-0 12. Boise State 6-0 13. LSU 5-1 14. TCU 7-1 15. Missouri 5-2 16. South Florida 6-1 17. Pitt 5-1 18. Georgia Tech 6-1 19. Tulsa 7-0 20. Ball State 7-0 21. BYU 6-1 22. Northwestern 6-1 23. Kansas 5-2 24. Minnesota 6-1 25. Florida State 5-1
Hi dg, BallState would is located in located in Muncie, Indiana. Yes a MAC team does look a little lonsome in those rankings but with a weak schedual I wouldn’t expect them to get higher than 15, even if they run the table.
Here is a link to the Harris Poll rankings. Ball State is #20 there as well. About a quarter of the teams were unranked last week so the ever shifting nature of this season is apparent. http://www.harrisinteractive.com/news/newsletters/bcsnews/BCS_Oct_19_2008.pdf
Just realized that we are up to the Penn State-Ohio State game. Other than wanting BC to win every week, my next greatest college football hope is to see Ohio State lose. I would dearly love to see Penn State take this one from Ohio State.
Yeah, I gotta ride with you on the PSU/OSU game. A coach that shows up at a game wearing a sweater vest deserves to lose on that basis alone.
I think Penn State will win this one, but as the game nears I'm getting more nervous. PSU has never won in the Horseshoe. Added onto that Ohio St has played only seven night games previous to this upcoming game, losing only to Texas in 05. I'm not worried about crowds, even though the Shoe holds the third largest crowd in college football.* The only thing keeping my hopes alive is the lackluster performances against creampuff teamsplayed by OSU. *While Ohio States Stadium is the third largest capacity stadium in college sports, Beaver Stadium is the largest, and third largest in the world
It's now 56-3! I may have to become more of a Gator fan. My BC Eagles are getting abused by North Carolina. Losing to the Tarheels in Basketball is one thing but losing to them in Football is a horse of a different color! Texas Tech is taking it to Kansas 63-14 at Kansas, with a guy kicking extra points who has never kicked before in college.
Georgia put a bad hurting on LSU. That's two weeks in a row that the Bayou Bengals have had over 50 put on them.
True, but Georgia's Defense was pretty porous, too. Interesting ACC games. BC and GaTech both lost and are likely to drop out of the top 25. North Carolina may jump back in, as its win over BC was convincing but Virginia does not have much of a shot, despite good wins over Maryland and now GaTech. Only FSU has a certain spot in the Top 25 out of the ACC when the next polls come out.
Well, Penn State and the Crimson Tide pulled it out in two hard-fought games. Congrats to Penn State for the W at the Horseshoe. Even though a loss by PS would have helped Alabama, I just could not bring myself to root for Ohio State.
Thanks Jeff, for rooting for PSU. It was a good defensive game. I started thinking they wern't going to pull it out. I was glad to see Alabama win. My preseason prediction is on track if only we could get Texas to lose. There were some high scoring affairs this weekend. OU put up 58, Georgia 52, Texas tech and Flrorida both put up 63, TCU 54, and Missuri 58. A good week in college football.
This weeks AP top 25 1. Texas (65) 8-0 1,625 2. Alabama 8-0 1,542 3. Penn State 9-0 1,503 4. Oklahoma 7-1 1,361 5. Florida 6-1 1,337 6. Texas Tech 8-0 1,280 7. USC 6-1 1,234 8. Georgia 7-1 1,212 9. Oklahoma State 7-1 1,168 10. Utah 8-0 1,027 11. Boise State 7-0 946 12. TCU 8-1 848 13. Ohio State 7-2 834 14. Missouri 6-2 791 15. LSU 5-2 649 16. Florida State 6-1 558 17. Brigham Young 7-1 553 18. Ball State 8-0 542 19. Tulsa 7-0 527 20. Minnesota 7-1 438 21. North Carolina 6-2 228 22. Michigan State 7-2 219 23. Oregon 6-2 188 24. South Florida 6-2 100 25. Maryland 6-2 89
The voters really did not punish Ohio State much for its loss. I wonder if that was because OSU put up a good fight or because the voters have an unnatural bias in favor of OSU (or maybe both!).
