Robert Rogge-a young American volunteer in the 3rd Canadian Division found himself wading ashore at Juno Beach on June 6, 1944-on the boot-end of the Allied attack on Hitler's 'Festung Europa'. Attached to the 8th Infantry Brigade of the 3rd Canadian Division, Rogge came ashore in the sector whose force objective was the coastal town of Courseulles-Sur-Mer. In December 1943, Rogge had been attached to a Scottish-Canadian unit, the Stormont, Dundass and Glengarry Highlanders. In 1946, Rogge left the Canadian Army and joined the USAF.
