Air Chief Marshal Leigh-Mallory, air commander for Overlord, was even more concerned, so far as to urge Eisenhower to cancel the American airborne landings. However they were considered essential to support the landing on Utah Beach, which in turn was necessary for the Allies to gain a sufficient lodgement on the Continent. Ike invited Leigh-Mallory to express his concerns in writing so as not to be blamed if they proved correct. L-M in turn apologized for adding to Eisenhower's burdens after the landings were successful.

So if Victorious was at Sydney then Sydney should be at Victoria*?

*Is there a harbor named Victoria in Oz?

This is from Sydney's second life, as a transport supporting Australia's contingent in Vietnam; note the cranes on deck and landing craft on davits aft.

I did too. Two of the earlier Colossus class light fleet carriers, Perseus and Pioneer, were converted into aircraft maintenance ships, so my first thought was that it might be something like that.

This photo is an exploded view of an actual B-29, showing many of the main components. The Chrysler DeSoto nose section is separated from the Goodyear built bomb bay fuselage sections. The Hudson built rear fuselage sections with the Goodyear vertical and horizontal tail and control surfaces can be seen. The main wing center section was built by Martin Omaha but the outer wing section components built by Hudson are visible. The Fisher Body engine nacelles have Chrysler built engine cowlings attached. Frigidaire props are off the Dodge built engines.

I was kidding, of course. I wonder what the Germans would have given for that picture in 1943?
