Lets wait for Ricky and Roel, they usually delete our new and dubious members away.

Roel & I troll through the new members a few times a day and simply delete the Spammers. There may be times when they manage to exist for a day or so (especially at weekends), but we do get them eventually!

Plus, we are now activating accounts manually, so none of them can post until Roel or I allow them.

Hope that makes you feel happier!

Unfortunately, manual activation of accounts doesn't stop these accounts from being on the memberslist. That is all these site-pushers are after, anyway; they were never going to make any posts. Therefore manual activation by Admins doesn't help. We will have to keep deleting all these annoying types manually.

Thanks everyone for your help in pointing them out. Like Ricky said, we go through the list a few times every day and new ones turn up almost every time. If you still find one, please leave a message here and we'll deal with it immediately.

There were seventeen of them today!

If anyone has any other ideas how we can stop this, I would be very grateful...

    Edit: eighteen!

You could prevent new members from having certain words in their names ie. mp3, poker, free, but I dont think you can evan do that.

The only thing we can ban is exact usernames and e-mail addresses.
If we get 2 spammers with the same e-mail address (for example, free@poker.fr ) we will ban that address. But that is all the preventative action we can take.

    Indeed.

    All are gone now (again).
Unfortunately there is currently no way we can prevent them from registering.

I'm afraid we can't do that. However, we have activated the word recognition thing that many forums also have, in which you have to copy a random word as it appears to you as you register. This seems to work, I haven't had to remove anyone today.

Day 2, and only 1 spammer needing removal. Yup, this works well!

Because I didn't know I already had the solution, perhaps? Or because I didn't know if it would actually work?
