I would probably have a division built like modern US armored divisions and with WW2 era equipment, of course. I believe both Guderian and Manstein stated that their Panzer divisions started to fail more and more often when they started splitting their armor regiments in half- from 250 down to 200, and then to 150, 100.. "3rd Armored in the Gulf War: At the height of the battle, the 3rd Armored Division included 32 battalions and 20,533 troops. It was the largest coalition division in the Gulf War and the largest U.S. armored division in history. In its moving arsenal were 360 Abrams main battle tanks, 340 Bradley Fighting Vehicles, 128 self-propelled 155 mm howitzers, 42 Apache attack helicopters, 27 multiple-launch rocket systems, and more." German Unit 22,000 men 250 medium tanks, Panther late model tanks in 6 battalions 50 Tiger I in one heavy battalion 100 Stug III in two battalions (for dedicated close infantry support and A/T roles) 2 Regiments of fully mechanized armored infantry in 400 Armored halftracks 2 Artillery Regiments, fully mechanized Two armored recon battalions Two anti-aircraft battalions, fully mechanized. One can dream, lol
I would take an entire armored Division. Equipped with Tiger II's, with the reliability of the Shermans.. Infantry armed with MG42 SAW's...and US Army Bazookas. Base Infantry weapon would be.."Sturmgewehr" / MP43 or M1 Garand. Russian Mosin-Nagent M91/30 for Sniper Teams. Commanded by Patton.
Gentelmen: The current US Armored Battalion deploys 58 Abrams Main Battle Tanks in four lettered companies. The Battalion HQ Compnay contains the Recon Platoon, the Mortor Platoon, and organic combat support. In combat they usualy pair a tank company with an Armored infantry company and some times they will swap platoon between companies to create mixed teams. Infantry and tanks should work togeather on the battlefield. As Ever, Walter L. Marlowe ( Airborne all the Way)
First post ever. Probably sucks. Kind: Special Ops. Nation: Germany Name: Das Deutsche Schwarz Tigeren (German Black Tigers) 2 regiments of infantry that are highly trained in covert ops, parachuting, mountain and coastal assault could be pretty cool. add in a bn of heavy panzers and 2 bns of panzergrenider could add in some offensive capibilities as well. have all units highly mobilized with halftracks and eqipped with some sdkfz51s (i think thats what theyre called) for recon, also add in self propelled arty such as the hummel and wespe models and what you would have is a fearsome opponet for any nation to deal with. as well, (just for the hell of it) add in a platoon of snipers to armed with g43s to add in the mix. Arms: MP 44s, G43s w/scopes, MG42s, Panzerschrecks, and some MP40s as a secondary weapon for those snipers. Add in a couple of mortars and such, but make sure that this unit is used as a spearhead, or in special ops as much as u can. u dont want to have some of ur best men being killed off anymore than what u have to.

Ok. Power of manourve is key generally. Where are we fighting. Do I have to slug through Villiers Bocage enagements or am I sweeping east across the open steppe in the pursuit of the remenants of Rokosovsky's Army's post Kursk. Horses for courses! I would not touch many of the assult guns. As most were just turretless tanks. If we're fighting in 'whatifland' let rule out any assault gun with armerments smaller smaller than 100mm.
Wow! What a great question. If I was to form a division in north Africa during ww2 in the German army, here is what I would do. First no soldiers would be moved by trucks or lorries, except wounded. I would have 50% of my division in tiger tanks with 75mm cannons on them. 40% in bmw motorcycles with sidecars with mg42 machineguns mounted on them. Each soldier would be armed with mp-40 machineguns, and p-38 pistols. 5% of the division wood be assigned to ammo transport. The remaining 5% would be in charge of fuel, food, water, moving camps, and medical. To me this would be the perfect Division.
