    Can animals count?

Some animals can apparently count small numbers. Pigeons, magpies, rats and monkeys have all been shown to be able to count small quantities and distinguish approximately between larger quantities. Many animals can recognize if one of their young is missing, too.

Ray.... just sneezed.... I tried holding my eyes open.... yeah it didnt work :)

Hitler and Napoleon both had only one testicle.

In ancient Rome, when a man testified in court he would swear on his testicles.

Homosexuality remained on the American Psychiatric Association's list of mental illnesses until 1973.

On average, a human being will have sex more than 3,000 times and spend two weeks kissing in their lifetime.

The "D" in D-Day originally represented nothing other than to create a name for the day a planned assault/attack was to take place by adding a "D." Similarly, the hour the attack was to start was H-Hour. After World War II, it became synonymous with the Allied assault on occupied France on June 6th, 1944.

Seeing as how I am halfway-dead, I better get busy!!

If you were ever grounded when you were little, you can thank WWII Aviation for that! Pilots would be 'grounded' due to bad weather and somehow the term became used when you were forced to stay in your room for being bad.

That yesterday, August 2nd was special in American numismatic history?

Aug. 2, 2009, marks the 100th anniversary of the Lincoln penny, the longest-running U.S. coin still in circulation. The U.S. Mint had been producing one-cent coins since its founding in 1792, but the 1909 penny (which replaced the Indian-head coin) was the first coin on which a President's likeness appeared. Teddy Roosevelt commissioned the coin to celebrate the 100th birthday of Abraham Lincoln. While most people applauded the new design, former Confederate soldiers were upset at the prospect of carrying the image of Lincoln in their pockets.

    From:

Land of Lincoln - Top 10 Things You Didn't Know About the Penny - TIME

Just found that myself, and thought it deserved to be in the "did you know" thread.

At the time of Pearl Harbor, the top US Navy command was called CINCUS (pronounced “sink us”), the shoulder patch of the US Army’s 45th Infantry division was the Swastika, and Hitler’s private train was named “Amerika”. All three were soon changed for PR purposes.

A unit of 29 amphibious Sherman tanks were launched from Allied ships on D-Day (June 6, 1944), but only two made it to land. The others sank in high seas. In 2000, divers were able to locate most of these tanks on the seabed.
