 their thinking is stupid and messed up [IMG] [IMG] I can do no more than frown at this insaneness [IMG] [IMG] Nowotny is a hero that they should remember ESPECIALLY in these times when there are so few heroes.

They need to leave Nowotny [IMG] so he can be at peace. :( :(

as a hero ? sad to say this is not true. The Austrians would like to put WW 2 behind them and I mean a long way away if not just forget those times........if at all possible.

If I receve more from Wien I will let all of you know. Have a German/austrian sohn living there and attending University...

One must not discount the numbers of Soviet a/c he bested serving while with JG 54 and then starting up Kommando Nowotny with the Me 262, brave as he and his Kameraden were to take up the untested jet into the European skies and being outnumbered 5 to one or greater by US P-51's.
Had he not been shot down by two P-51 pilots of the 20th and 357th fighter group he would have become one of the top Jet fighter aces with JG 7 in my estimation.

The really stupid thing is that Austria has had Prime Ministers that were in units that had commited war crimes, are their graves being dug up? No, but someone who only would have attacked military targets is. And its not like Austrians were not Nazi's themselves.

I only caught this thread a couple of days ago. I am disgusted that there is someone in power who can make this kind of statement and, apparently, get away with it. It is disrespectful of any fallen soldier, Hero or not. Are the graves of soldiers from the first war disturbed? no, regardless of their nationality.

Whose purpose is served by moving this mans remains?
