Is there an Angela Merkel toilet... She kinda started the whole thing...Look at how things are going over there since they opened their loving arms...Pretty sure AM won't be attacked while walking to work, or swimming in a public pool.
Michelle Obama won't be attacked while jogging.
Because her body guards carry guns. A lot of them.

sadly, the more people rail against Trump the more popular he becomes. There is little logic or much reason beyond the feeling by his supporters that somehow he will sweep away the old order and establish a new one in its place.

I was originally hoping - ooh, Obama is going to change the world. And he did, just not the way most people wanted.
So, Donald simply could be no worse than Bama/Clinton have already been...
Like how he has thrown a wrench into the republican gears... Time for a big change and he would prolly do it.
Merkel is now backpedaling regarding immigration...Most of Europe seems to now hold the same opinions on immigration Trump is spouting.
    End rant.

It amazes me that,on a history related forum, the lessons of history are not learned. The USA will not survive in its present form for too much longer. All empires and forms of government go through drastic changes every 300/400 years.America is due for a reset.Once again, power and greed will destroy it.It may go like this, collapse, revolution, dictator, republic. What will not happen is the freedoms we enjoyed.Sad,very sad.

The problem with that is globalization. More and more countries go to great lengths to maintain the status quo. Just look at Greece. Imagine how far the 1st world would go to prevent America's fall lest it pull them down with it.

How do most people feel about the mass immigration where you are MK?
Because Sweden plans to ship out a bunch, and Merkel now says Syrian immigrants must go back when the war is over.
    Police over there are saturated.

Who would peers in your area vote for if they were a U.S. citizen?

The people who dislike black/brown people latch on to the current situation only because it is mainly black/brown people. The could not care less about immigration when it is about white immigrants. Europe has its racist bigots but they are pretty well marginalised in far-right looney political parties that everyone recognises as such. In Europe we look down/ridicule those politicians who pander to the crazies rather than elect them.

You asked so here it is straight. Most of the current Republican contenders are scary frightening people with disturbing world views. Some appear to be simpletons.

It's possible and history points toward it...but there are many more checks and balances globally now...we see one countries fortune affect others...the mechanisms in place almost prohibit total destruction in this era...unlike the past.
It's most likely new form will be a schism, created by Mexicans and Chinese...democracy itself will create leaders from these groups and there will be enough voters to create seperate parties based on what these groups want...a three way split as I see it...will the 'status quo' take it lying down? History says no...current liberalism says maybe...

While agreeing, even partially, with m kenny tends to give me a mild case of heartburn :), in this case I do.

There is no vast majority of the electorate in the US, or Europe for that matter, up in arms about immigration. I do suspect that in general terms the feelings are similar in numbers proportionally between Europe and the US.

Perhaps a quarter are truly bent out of shape over Illegals, a quarter thinks we need to make it easier for them and the rest are somewhat concerned and would like to see better border control and some way to get those already here out of the black/gray market and fully integrated into our society as either citizens or official guest workers so that they can both pay their fair share of taxes/fee's while having full access to our opportunities. In many way's this reflects in microcosm our overall political divide.

It seems the way it does because we are suffering through a election cycle which puts a microphone in everyone's face. Sounds like during the next cycle for Germany and Sweden it may be just as much political theater and perhaps worse.

Where I part company with our esteemed m kenny is in the rather naive belief that anti-immigrant feelings is viewed as rants from the lunatic fringe of Europe. Perhaps he might note the reluctance with which many European countries have with accepting 'quota's' of refugees, the proliferation of barbed wire fences on their borders and the calls for the end of unfettered movement within Europe.

With the mass migration's, terrorism and hard economic times we now live in a Frighten New World and whether we like it or not, it will change us to some degree. Hopefully in this change we will remain as much as we wish ourselves to be, while finding a balance we can live with.

The problems in Europe are to do with numbers and not the principle. Europe has its share of right wing looneys. Over the weekend in the UK we had 2 examples where these nutters decided to have 'Christian Patrols' in Muslim areas and a demo at Dover where the usual group of 99% white males of thuggish appearance start a fight whilst waving banners that are slightly modified Nazi flags. However my point is that no member/leader of such a group is seen as a serious politician. They are derided as thugs and racist bigots. The quickest way to end your political career in the UK is to talk like Trump or Cruz. In the UK right-wing Groups are former Football Hooligans who can no longer get a fight on Saturday afternoons and have resorted to picking on 'immigrants' (code word for anyone brown or black)and are treated like the thugs they are.
