    Hi

This is my first post on the forum so I hope I am using the correct section. In May this year I will be staying for two days in Dunkirk. I was wondering if any one could advise me on the best places to visit to see WW2 sites. Also would any members no of any decent hotels or B & B in Dunkirk.

    Thank you

    Tony

Hello, and welcome to the forums,

I was in Dunkirk last year for the 70th anniversary of the evacuations, and can say that the town itself is very nice. I would recommend a visit to the museum in the town (it's easy to find) as it is fully devoted to both the evacuations as well as the liberation, it has many relics of the fighting and has very good displays.

...........and of course a walk along the beaches and sand dunes themselves.

Thanks Andy I will look out for them. Ref the beach did the evacuation cover all of it or is there a specific area. Not sure how long the beach is.

Ya Tony, the actual area involved in the evacuation is very large, so take a look at Google maps if there's a specific area you want to visit.

Enjoy your trip and do post some militaria related photos when you get back ;)

    Tony,

loads to see in that part of the world, not specifically Dunkirk related. 35 mins down the motorway towards St. Omer is the museum at La Coupole (V2 bunker),
LA COUPOLE : World War II Museum and battlefield museum, tourism, North of France
War museum in the centre of Calais is well worth a visit
War Museums - Musée de la Guerre - Calais
Combine that with a short trip along the coast road between Calais and Boulogne to the Battery Todt museum at Cap Gris Nez, which is full of fantastic relics displayed in the most authentic setting..
