Over time, I've heard opinions that strongly uphold one side of a debate and strongly put down the other side. Like the 'Oh Canada, God Hates You' video brought to attention by Siberian Black. Personally, I'm not a big fan of these extreme viewpoints. What do others think?
Generally 'Extremists' are people who believe that the world is very much in 'black and white', that everything can be (and should be) neatly divided into right & wrong, or whatever. Basically, what I am trying to say is that they tend to have a very unrealistic view of life, but a conviction that you could bend horseshoes around. In particularly bad cases this of course can make them very dangerous people, as they are particularly able to view people who do not agree with their views as somehow 'subhuman' and even expendable. That being said, I'm sure all of us do have quite set views on something or other.
True. They're are a few topics that are very likely to set me off on a rant (Friendly fire, and stuff like that video clip) I wouldn't consider myself an extremist, but I can easily see that in me around those subjects (ps: I is theoriginalblue in comments for the flick...not that anyone cares  )
Okay, maybe extremist isn't the best word to use. What I'm trying to get at are just viewpoints that strongly uphold one side of a debate and put down the other side. Perhaps not to the point of 'extremist.'
Well, the truths each of us cling to depend very much upon our own point of view, to paraphrase Obi-wan Kenobi. And some people get really bent out of shape when you disagree with them, even violently so. In fact, it has been noted in this country that more and more nowadays, people demonize those who disagree with them, which I think is very sad. Issues are often not truly and openly debated, but rather the "pro-" side screams at the other (and/or vice versa), until any voices of reason are howled down.
Siberian Black is apparently a red indian demon.......and his friend is a yellow servant of Satan.... You mean like that?
Yes, something like that. Such as when someone disagrees with you about a topic, global warming for example, and you then start in calling them names and otherwise berating them because of that. I've seen it happen here in this forum as well from time to time, which is why we have the moderators to keep things as civil as possible.
How about actually saying my previous comment? It was actually a sort of paraphrase, against me and a friend of mine. Although how the guy deduced I was a Native is beyond me...
