    why though?
the MP40 was a reliable weapon and used a slightly more powerful round than the PPSh 41. The 7.62mm round was hight velocity but didnt have a very good stopping power and its range was limmeted also the PPSh-41 was a bit on the large size for a SMG and hence the reason why the PPS-43 was brought in. Im not saying the PPSh-41 was a bad gun though the 71 round drum magazine was certainly an accet and the rate of fire was stageringly high for an SMG but i dont doubt it was a bad weapon because of the rush for German soldiers did to get one.

Yes, but the PPsh-41 was more robust and dependable. Another advantage was the mag, cos the mp-40er was quite long and if you´re lying on the ground it´s not particular easy to shoot, sry don´t have such good abilitys to explain things understandable ;)

I've never heard a complaint about the length of the magazine and i gues the same could be said about the M3 and M3A1. I dont kno which was more reliable but all i kno is alot of tankers and some soldiers complained about the size of the PPSh-41 because of its size (the tanker esecialy because the the crowded insides of the tanks)

The 32 round magazine of the mp40 was prone to failure failure because the spring could not handle the weight of the 32 rounds. Thereofre it was common it load the magazine with 30 or 31 rounds.

Actually I have seen it repeated a lot in 'popular history' books, usually accompanied by the photo Che posted to demonstrate it.

Don't know if it actually was a common complaint though!

I wonder how much of an annoyance the MP40 was to the soldiers who wielded it, well because it had no freakin heat guards, you had to hold by the magazine, and lastly you could easily burn you hands (... maybe a good way to get out of the front line).

hmm, but the PPsh was very popular by the Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS, so I guess it must be a very good mp.
