i had a client once who told me a good war storie...as a young GI posted in manchuria in the fall japan of 1945 was tasked with the destruction of many hundreds of surrendered jap samurai swords, many of them very old ..he and his buddies used sledghammers and iron bars after wrapping the blades in old blankets . it took them days to complete their work ..sigh ...what a tragedy ...
Re: Flare pistol Interesting, I have seen these about occasionally on militaria sites and shops. Did you ever get chance to fire it? It just reminds me of a Derringer a friend of mine had before te handgun ban, it was a double barreled derringer, with the top barrel holding a .45-70 round and the bottom one holding a .410 shotgun cartrige.
12 bore. No, not likely! I took the sleeve out, how could you explain a 12bore pistol to the Police! Each part had a miniture eagle and number stamp. You opened the breech by pushing forward the curved catch below the trigger guard.
Re: 12 bore. Very true Merlin, sorry bit of a blonde moment there for me. ahhh so it's is heavily Waffen Ampt (spl?) then, that's what I believe the Eagle stamps are called but I might be mistaken
a relative of mine has an old break open shotgun that should have been distroyed many years ago. they stopped making the bullets for it years ago. if i remeber corectly it is from the early 1900's
A good story from a few days before I left South Africa. Note - in the Zulu culture, a common greeting is "Sawubona" - which means "I see you", to which the person recieving the greeting is to reply "I see you as well, how are you?" etc... I was having a few beers with some friends and we were shooting the bottles with a .22 in the yard, over the pool (not real smart, I know). From my friends yard you could see over the wall and onto the street above, because it was on the hill. I was about to take a shot and had just grabbed the rifle when I saw a black garden boy or something walking on the street, and being tipsy and in a good mood, I gave him the jovial greeting of "Sawubona" - whilst waving the rifle in one hand and holding a beer in another! Needless to say he gave me one frightened look and then ran away really quickly. :kill:
Guns and booze don't go together! Having said that, I can imagine the look on his face when he saw whitie with a gun and bottle hollering at him.
KKK The KKK rides again! Errrrr! I think these 'smiley's' are a bit racist, why are there no black ones? WHOOPS SORRY, THERE ARE, THERE ARE!
This is by no means a rare occurence. In the Imperial War Museum in London I can recall seeing hundreds of rounds that had that happen to them and these were from WW1 and later (i.e. not lead balls)
Given all the vagueries of firearms this would certainly be a rare occurance, I wouldn't be surprised if this is literally a one-in-a-million occurance if not greater odds. Even setting up two rifles clamped on benches at fairly close ranges the odds are against this happening. O/T Since you seem to have returned and are making a regular appearance on these boards again I was wondering if you had any comment on your version of the sinking of HMS Patia. A link in case you'd forgotten: http://www.fun-online.sk/forum/viewtopi ... 00&start=0 There's a few issues there that I'd be interested in clearing up, I mention them in my post on that thread so I wont bother repeating them.
Rare but not impossible to duplicate...although very difficult to do so, ask the Mythbusters. I gotta gun story.....some idiot was playing some sex game with his wife that involved a 12 gauge and his 'family jewels'.....except once when company was coming over (they were at the door actually) it was loaded so 'shoot 'em off' became reality 2002(?) Darwin Awards Although the cop who pulled a military grenade on some guy he was arguing with was pretty good too.
