CAC, I'm not following you. What species is desirable? Which ones do you like? I still have scars from when a dog attacked me when I was four. I remember riding around the yard in his mouth. I don't think all dogs are like that, but I am a cat person.

Why would intelligence be preferred if it eventually kills you? Maybe ignorance is bliss…Maybe the meek will inherit the Earth…Maybe long life Trumps intelligence. Is a species superior because of intelligence or because it lives on? Nothing to gain from being smart if it kills you.
Domestic cats are just one of the evils wrought by humanity.

I agree wholeheartedly with ya CAC but with one caveat' ,
Education and Culture are another humanistic concept. If we really wanted to get back to purely living, and we're too ensconced in our convenient lifestyle such as it is to even consider such a thing, nothing outside our eyesight would hold any meaning. I wouldn't care what was around the bend. If I were hungry I'd rummage for food. Etc:
Everything built or conceived my Man was for Man's self interest. Shelter, preservation, aesthetics, War.
Then there's Woman. Once a female is added to the mix all deals are off and man becomes nothing more than the animal he proclaims to be a 'lesser' species.

So at best we'd have a day or so to kiss our arse goodbye.

I didn't claim this so I'll not try to defend it.
My blissfully ignorant hillbilly relatives die early from easily prevented conditions because they think medicine is evil.
    Maybe they won't.
    How?
    See my first reply.
Much to be gained if it keeps you from dying. My father refused to attend to his diabetes and died very ugly.
    Your opinion is noted.

Yes I say sometimes to people too wrapped up in human achievement…”You think we are advanced? Go check out Pornhub…we still be animals.
Actually education and culture exist among all higher animals. It’s an animal concept not human. We have just taken it to the extreme because of our intelligence…but it’s taken a long time. Wasn’t that long ago the vast majority of humans couldn’t even read…they were destined to be workers…beasts of burden. Tools for the educated people to use…sounds like animals doesn’t it.

I had a deep and meaningful with a psychologist once…And in the space of 20 minutes we deduced that a successful life is….living. Do you want to be Elvis Presley with all his money and women? No. Why? Because he is dead…if I was Elvis I’d be a skeleton.Elvis would give everything he had to be ME, because I’m alive.
So when I say long life Trumps intelligence…It does. What’s the point of being smarter than me if you’re dead?

What's the point of living stupid? I could have died any number of times from age 5. Didn't.

Not always. I've walked away when I thought it appropriate. I've never hurt anybody over a sexual relationship. If I were to be an animal I'd be a very dangerous one, so I don't.

What’s the point of being smart if it kills you? Curiosity killed the cat. If you didn’t die before the age of 5 it was luck not intelligence that saved you…plenty of humans don’t live to 5…still.
Living stupid…ignorance is bliss…can’t worry about things you don’t know about. A simpler life…But shorter life…we instinctively know that to keep living is desirable. We have added 25-30 years onto our expectancy but are yet to work out what to do with it.

You might not know what to do with it, but I have commendations on my wall for my part time work on military history, unpaid. I'm 73 and looking at maybe another 20+ according to my doctors. I'll still be having fun in 2043.

Well gee, there's a multitude of arguments but my own opinion is; Dogs And Cats! I've lost far more tears over my pets than family and friends. Ignorance is Bliss until it isn't. Knowledge doesn't necessarily coincide with Intelligence.

Have I mentioned lately I get to go on an airplane ride in June ?

Fuck I hope so…The world would be lesser without you mate.
Knowing what to do after retiring is KEY to living…we bolster ourselves physically to handle work life…For too many, they let it all hang loose after retirement, opening themselves up to all sorts of illnesses due to a lowering of the immune reaction.
Having a purpose…a reason to get out of bed is key to living longer.

I've found out it's lots of fun to discuss things over the internet. I've also learned a lot over the past few years.
    Such as :
That large earth moving manufacturing company I retired from ? They've been paying me to stay home the past 16 years. In another 14 years I'll have been paid for doing nothing for 30 years. In contrast and compared to the first 30 years of them paying me for doing nothing other than show up. They could have saved me a lot of money on gas and other work related items if they had just sent me a check each week starting when was 18. My goal was to receive a pension equivalent to my years of servitude.

    Oh, here's Kalli;

I tended to become the lesser species. And I'll leave it that.

Hopefully with ME in the nose ! Actually they can strap my butt to a bomb shackle and hang me over the open bomb bay doors and I'll be happy. What I'm really hoping for is the view over the right shoulder of the Pilot. Two months and 15 days. But you know....... , Who's counting?"
