by the way the people said for several years about rising gas prices that gas is still cheaper than water. Well they probably buy like 750ml bottles of qwater for $1. We buy 15L of water from costco for about $6.50 so really that is lower than the price of gasoline, therefore the claim has little basis.
One has to wonder why, as tap water (at least here in Denmark) is a great deal healthier than bottled water.[/quote]
10 years ago here it used to b around 53cents canadian for a cubic meter of water. I donno the rate because I do not pay the bills.
Today marks the 3rd day that gas prices fell under 1 dollar evan thought prices per barrel are still increasing.
The system used to increase gas prices, at least in the United States, amazes me. The gas prices will steadily raise anywhere up to 70 cents until the general public (and the farcical US media) become extremely agitated, and then the prices will drop 20-30 cents. People then feel that prices are normal, even though they may still be 40-50 cents higher than they where a few weeks earlier. Of course, this happens again, and again, and again. It's like the cartoons where an assassin would disguise himself as a bush and sneak increasingly closer to his target, but when the target looked in his direction, he would stop. Once the target looked away, the assassin would draw nearer until he was withing striking range and BAM... target dead. I'm tired of driving with someone and then hearing them say "Oh, wow, the gas prices are down to $2.56 ($ .67USD/liter)!" No, the gas prices are not lowering, the oil industry/government only makes us think that way because they know we are all idiots.
I really don't know what Americans would have to complain about anyway. Our gas prices are easily twice as high as American prices because of environment taxes. And we're not the ones cramming all that CO2 into the atmosphere...
pst in America is you buy a car like the Prius 59miles to the gallon estimated, you get like several thousand from governemtn , I forget the figure. And the car kinda pays for itself. Okey the average mercedes has about 19m/g Hypothetical situation. You ahve a 5miles to work and another 5 back, thats 10miles/day for 5 days a week. Say you go to work 250times in a year in your mercedes. (250X10)/19= aroughly 131.6gallons a year just to work. (250X10)/59= 42.4 gallons a year So roughly 1/3 of the amount of gas you would sue in a mercedes. Remember this situation is hypethetical, most Americans travel a much further distance to and from work, plus they drive a hell lot to were ever the hell theyw ant to go. Since I dont go to work I dont really know how many days a week people go to work. Im guessign around 250. I used the distance of 5miles because it is about 5km from my house to my school, and about 7.5 from my house to the university.
i have a 92 honda accord that give me about 30 m/p, my work is 48 milles one way, work 5 days a week and once i got home i do not go out, period! still i have to pay about 40 dlls a week in gas, i remember when i pay 15 dll to fill the tank,
A little follow up. When the Isreal-Lebanon conflict started the gas prices jumped up almost 20 cents depending on where you lived in Canada. For example in it went from 1.05 to 1.25 per litre in Ottawa and in Montreal the gas prices were around 1.30. Now its been a months and the conflict is over the prices dropped back down to under 90 cents. Today it was around 86.7 cents/litre which is much better than the summer.
I just filled up at $2.369 per gallon!! Sadly, I thought that a damned good price!!! Then again, I'm old enough to remember my father cussing up a storm when gas first passed $1.009 per gallon...
When I think about it, the same happened over here. For a while petrol prices climbed up to just under £1 a litre. Now they are back down to 98.9p a litre.
Depends, I use a diesel to get to and from work. Petrol's usually up to a few pence cheaper than diesel but between my home and work the price of a litre of diesel varies hugely anywhere between 92.9p/litre and in one place 104.9p/litre. Even for a fairly standard tank shopping around can really make a difference in your pocket!
