Is it true that it is illegal to homeschool children in Germany ?
Such an idiotic law
Why? By not allowing home schooling, the government ensures that all children are given the opportunity of having a good education. Since the number of jobs for people without education is dwindling in Western Europa, due to high minimum wages, a quality education is a necessity.
Its legal almost everywhere else. From what I've seen home schooled kids seem to perform better than public school ones. I think the government should check up and give tests to see if kids are at the standard of everyone else, but making homeschooling illegal is just plain wrong.
I've seen examples of the opposite. For lower grades, the children may perform better, but in the higher grades (from they're around 10 - 12 year old), the subject matters become too diverse and complicated for any one person to gather sufficient knowledge to teach it to the children. Good performance in one area will be on the expense of poor performance in other areas.
Their performance can't be tested properly either. They can be held against the standard tests, but this only shows their absolute skills. A normal result may be due to a gifted child, who would perform superiorly to others if tutored by a professional, and a poor result may be due to a child with special tutoring needs, which the parents won't admid.
Furthermore, keeping the children at home will prevent them from learning social skills, which can seriously damage their whole life later on.
Besides that, I fail to see why anyone in Germany would have any reason not to send their children to school.
I dont think keeping kids from school will honestly hurt their social skills. Secondly, you can buy kits that help you homeschool kids, and my parents help with my school work without problem. the only problems arising being ones of "i havent done this in a while". What if a kid does better at homeschooling due to the environment and the one on one teaching ? would you still send him/her to public school knowing that she'll have a better education at home ?
Unless they have social interaction with children otherwise, which is much more difficult when they are excluded from the primary place to meet other children, then it will definately hurt their social skills.
There is also a difference between helping children with their homework and having to administer it. A teacher has to know more about their subject then what they teach.
That assumes that the child would actually do better at home.
Home schooling is considered quite usualy here allthough not frequent.
What about bullying ? What if a kid is being bullied and the administration doesnt discipline ? I would want my kid (assuming i had 1) to be home schooled rather than go to an environment where he/she is in fear all the time or being ridiculed
True, but since public school as far as I know is of a far better standard in Europe than in North America, there isn't really the same need here.
As for being bullied, the parents will at least here have the possibility of switching the child to another school nearby, or ask the school to expel the student doing the bullying.
Seriously, you don't see how failing to interact with a wider range of peers fails to hurt your social skills? No single couple can prepare you for the wide range of pesonalities you will meet in the real world anywhere near as well as actually mixing with a hundred or so other real people on the same level as you.
Kits are one thing, a balanced education involving understanding a wide range of subjects in depth is another.
Then they're an exception, however this is clearly a complex issue, a parent may well be competent to educate a child to a primary level, even in a specific subject and in specific cases to degree level, but to cover the sort of subjects a typical secondary school would in adequate depth, no. Not even close. They may score better in tests, in some cases do better overall, but to actually understand a subject to the same level that degree educated history/english/chemistry/biology/physics/maths/IT/foreign language/geography/etc...etc.. teachers can is just not possible.
Better education, or likely to score better in specific exams? Doesn't necessarily mean the same thing. An important part of a person's education is social interaction, something you simply cannot get without the varied aspects of mixing with your peers.
If I genuinely felt my children would be better served by home schooling, then I would take that choice. I haven't, however even with all the above said and considering that I don't think that is the right option in the case of my children, I would greatly resent the state taking that choice out of my hands.
Im never outside off school hours and almost never talk to anyone in school , and im not a weirdo when people talk to me.
csp...what are "off school hours " and why cant you go outside.during those times ..is it like some kind of lock down , like they do to prisoners at san quentin or solidad...sounds very grim...why cant you talk to other students, your school sounds like some 19th century debtors prison ....any kind of home schooling has got to be an improvment..see if you can get tranferred to another school...
I have extreme, or just a lot, of shynness.I like to be alone with my own thoughts and reading mostly. When I go out i eventually get bored and restless, or uncomfortable and want to return home. I also feel very out of place and uncomfortable in unfamaliar places.
Those could be symptoms of Asperger's Syndrome, which is a mild form of autism. You might want to ask your parents to take you to a psychologist to find out - it's not something which can be cured as such, because it's a neural condition rather than a decease, but a psychologist can help you learn how to live with it.
csp , how old are you ,if i might ask?
If i might add too, whatever education there is,they need to teach more tact.
Im 17, 18 on march 17th.
this might sound strange ,csp ...but you need to hang out with the knuckle heads abit ,get too drunk ...pick a fight or two (its ok if you lose )...shamelessly hit on all pretty girls (here again alcohol is your freind ) get in some trouble with the authoritys , BE A BAD BOY (chicks dig this ,for some reason )...really ...do all this stuff and you will feel alot better for it ...be a man ,take up some space in the world , it wont kill you ,it will save you.......you can still be a nerdy quiet bookworm with good grades... but you must do it in secret......btw ...under this obnoxious swaggering saltie exterior of mine, lies the heart of a nerdy ,quiet ,bookworm ...remember , csp , "faint heart never won fair maiden ", or anything else ,for that matter.......you do like maidens , right?
That's awful advise.
