I appreciate this post - I have never seen these before! I can't find much about them on the Internet and I also swiped through all my books:Nothing! Since you own them do you think you could tell me a little bit about them please?
Great helmets Rich! -------------------------- Hey VolksGrenadier44, the badge was awarded to men injured during WW1, there is three classes, Black (1-2 wounds), Silver (3-4 wounds) and then the Gold version (for 5 or more wounds, or for the loss of a limb, eyesight etc). It was often worn with pride, as it is the only award that must be earned with blood. You often see Hitler wearing his Black one in photographs. very nice Rich, tell me do you find your items at garage sales etc or have you just been collecting for years? .....just you have some very nice stuff!
Andy. I get stuff from flea markets, thrift stores, yard/house sales and sometimes gun shows. I go to flea markets as often as I can and have been grabing stuff for a while. Rich A. in Pa.
Thanks Rich I only wish I had similar methods of collecting militaria here , flea markets and house sales are rare and seldom have militaria included in their contents.
The scabbards and covers are the best things. It is to bad the guy could not find the hilts. He rememberes them from when he was a kid. Rich A. in Pa.
I had a hard to identify this medal but it appears to be the Bavarian commemration medal of the Bavarian-Prussian war of 1866. The ribbon (not included) is supposed to be white and blue and represents the Bavarian colours. same for the Lion which made me think of Flanders but is in fac the Bavarian one (see the Löwenbrau label ) This was found by one of my friends at our local flea market and I suppose it was brough here in 1871, but that's a guess.
One for Ulrich! This is a parcel that was sent to a Bavarian Kanonier from the 6th Bavarian Landwehr-division .
Fine to see that, Skipper! Those items are in great shape. Here´s a PDF to the Armee Abteilung Gaede and others fighting at the Hartmannsweilerkopf. Only in German but you are in the guess. http://www.hartmannsweilerkopf.de/A-DATEN-PDF/Chronologie.pdf
Great detailled story ,thanks for sharing this document. As a matter of fact the person who sold this to me is an Alsacian from Colmar.
A German imperial sweetheart medal : one one face the eagle, on the other "this little medal says don't forget me"
