While the tank losses of the Germans were far less than the British during Goodwood, I have read that the casualties suffered by the Germans forces during Goodwood was in fact worse than those of the British (wish I could remember the source  )

    Redcoat,

the British infantry was not meant to be involved in any large numbers in fighting to my knowledge but the tanks were according to the plan. So no surprise the German losses were higher. As well some German troops were caught heavily by the bombing so another reason there. If all the German forces had been caught by the bombing in the same manner it would have been a walk in the park for the British forces, I think.

German losses were heavy in Goodwood. Several infantry formations ceased to exisit afer the bombing and alot just surrendered as the British advanced.

Will get the books out later and post some German losses...

    Rite...

    To start...

    16th Luftwaffenfeld Division

This division suffered serious losses during Goodwood. All commanders and staffs of the Infantry regiments and battalions were put out of action. 36 company commanders became casualties. The losses meant that the division was not re-built and its remaining troops went to 21st Panzer Division (to replenish their infantry) and to 16th Infantry Division. The division was formerly disbanded on 4th August.

I have one source that states that Schwere Panzer 503 lost no more than four tigers during Goodwood...

    Still checking stuff...

On the question of losses it was interesting to find out that by the time the 10SS reached the start line Luttich they had only 5 tanks on strength. This was due in the main because of them being ordered by Von Kluge to deal with Op Bluecoat on their way. What a stupid orders. how were they supposed to launch a counterattack after attempting to deal with 2 British Armoured divisions.

the only day that 10th SS report 5 MKIV is 7th August so its a possibility... The figures for StuGIIIs are about the same...

Bear in mind that the 10th SS had very few tanks anyway. They got to Normandy with only 20 - 25 MKIVs...

AT the start of Blucoat on the 30th July they had 17 MKIVs and 17 StuG IIIs...

Not exactly a 'full strength formation'... Bet they didnt mention that in the conference...
