    The Cold War is history...

Just ask some of the Russian posters online.....references to "Post Cold War" sourcing of information, new understanding with the East etc....the Cold War sank into the sunset quite a while ago. It all began at Reykjavik, when Ron and Marg bamboozled Mikhail into backing down from a Nuclear Test Ban. Ronnie got Star Wars through congress, Mikhail went home a hero to the West and a traitor to the Soviet cause...

Glasnost may have cost "Gorby" his job, but the "Doomsday Clock" was moved in the first rearward movement in over 20 years.

All that other stuff is just 'business as usual' for the superpowers....the rest of us little people simply tow the line.

I'd just like to point out that Putin is a GOOD man....underneath it all!!!!

PEACE through superior firepower, just as "Ronnie" wished it....

I like his joke about signing legislation outlawing the Soviet Union, and the US was to begin bombing in 5 minutes when he thought that the mic was off. Classic.

I remember his funeral, watching it on TV. I still have the Knox-New Sentinel with Nancy on the front page, kneeling down and touching his casket. Very powerful image.

Hi Luke, same here. I watched the funeral and switched back-n-fourth between the two better news coverages I found. His Funeral was one of he most moving-I had ever watched. To see his Sons and to listen to what they said really it home. Also, his adopted Son, appeared to me to be much more closer to his Father than Ron Jr was-which to me was a sad thing to see.

You mean you have a problem with the truth?

Reagan was neither a great president nor a great actor.

    Sir,

Your sophomoric comment about this being an adult forum suggests
    otherwise.

One of the most important things "Ronnie" did was bring back patriotism to the U.S. It had been solely missing for some time.

No Dave, I have a problem with someone like you, who comes into an innocent Happy Birthday thread-and totally ruins it (on purpose) by sneaking in a backstab at a GREAT Gentleman-Statesman. THAT is what I have a problem with that and your lack of participation. I wouldn't even do that had someone started an Jethrobama Bodine Happy Birthday thread. All I would have done was the Adult thing b not making a reply in it-and in the least-just reading the postings in that thread. So look at yourself in the mirror when accusing someone of not being an adult about their replies. Now, before this goes further "south" we can discuss this behind closed doors if you wish? I for one as the thread starter-do not want this thread ruined further. Now, like I mentioned above, if you have problems with one of THE GREATEST Presidents this COuntry ever had? then why don't you send me a PM and we can deal with our opposing views there? I also find it quite strange that it took you several days to post a reply.

Reagan was neither of what you said in your own opinion - but thankfully, you are in a minority in that thinking here. If I ever found anything else that you post good enough to acknowledge one way or another, i'd be more than happy to. As you know, I am trying my best to be in fair judgement on those whose postings I reply too-much unlike a few here whom I go tet-a-tet with. At least I know I am fair as I give out my thanks in the form of points and salutes even to those whom I can't stand but I happen to like something they once said. I have not seen you o that and this is a perfect case in point..

    Best regards-C.

PS, I do have loads of respect for some liberals on this site-like Lou-whom I have great respect for for many reasons. Lou and I are opposites to the extreme but, at least Gents like Lou, do not come out of the dark shadows just to attack someone whose birthday was trying to be observed, by trying to force THEIR hatred for someone-on those who care nothing for that opinion-especially in a simple thread posted to honor them on their birthday. I have zero respect for those who can only do something like step out of the shadows on occasion then plunge that dagger into a passerbys back, then disappear again like a rat being chased by a large cat) until they feel need to come crawling out of the shadows again to strike another unsuspecting passers-by.

Sorry Mods, but this is the cleanest I could be on this. This should now be closed as its effectively a dead thread-again-thanks to Dave.

PSS, one final thing dave, I have loads of respect for Ike as well, not only has he been an excellent member here, but he is also a Veteran.

Have a nice, safe weekend will ya? You can thank the opportunity for that thanks to folks like Ike.

Dave, YOU deserved that remark and I fully support Ike for saying it even if I get tosed into jail for saying so.

    Well said Ike!!!

I believe this thread has outlived its usefulness. Before this turns out any worse, I am closing it. If any of you wish to continue discussing it in a gentlemanly fashion, do so privately.
