Yes Ken, what you really want is his WD66/DA66 (yes, they kept the same number...and continued to use the original WD66 form he started his career with in 1943 until he retired ) "Officer's, Warrant Officer's, and Flight Officer's Qualification Record". My Dad had a photostat of his and when he retired in July 1969 somehow managed to take with him the "Organizational Copy" (his last billet was as Assistant G-2, V Corps Artillery in Darmstadt, Germany). I would check his papers if you have them, many officers like my Dad kept copies of all the relevant stuff...I even know where my Dad was billeted for a class at one point after he got to England.

 

LOL! Yes, and this comes under the heading of shoulda, coulda, woulda! We turned all those files over to the guys at Carlisle Barracks when he passed. I even had, in my hand, his orders as a 2LT to report to Ft. Benning, signed by, wait for it, John J. Pershing. I understand anything with Pershing's signature is worth $10,000 to collectors. Yeah, could have been a replica signature, but did they have those machines back then?

 

Thanks! I am always amused at how much an Army, any army stays basically the same over time. Years ago I was doing some research on an ancestor that had been a Lt. in the Confederate Army. I was going through action reports, orders, etc and found myself totally at home with all of it. At first I thought I'd gotten into the US paperwork, then rethought that. Most of the senior officers of the Confederacy being former US officers and many West Pointers, they would have done the admin the way they knew how. So the procedures and paperwork were essentially a mirror image of US procedures and paperwork, or so it appeared to me. Your form is not all that different from my DD 214's (I have three, enlisted, warrant and commissioned).

 

Aaack! Always make copies! So USAMHI-AHEC won't honor your request for copies of documents you donated? I guess they've fallen on sad times since the last time I was there. Dr. Sommers used to enjoy sitting the front desk just so he could interact with researchers.
