Whilst looking for some new books to read about the battle for Normandy I found this site which impressed me for two reasons. Firstly, there seems to be a good depth of knowledge here and perhaps more importantly (for me) the threads appear to be generally unbiased in their views.

My interest in military history started many years ago when ITV in the UK ran a series called "Red Roses Every Night" which recreated the cinema experience from the 1940's with feature films, propaganda documentaries and cartoons. I also remember the early runs of The World at War.

Over the next few decades I have read various (military) historic books but I would not make any claim to expertise. I suppose my main interest is in the 2nd World War. I recently took my 6 year old niece to visit some local pillboxes Carlisle, Pill-box on the Brampton Road as she has just started to learn about this war at school. Hopefully this created a greater sense of reality compared to reading some facts in a classroom

Howdy Lowe and welcome. You'll find that most here are fairly knowledgeable, except for one Russian-sounding, Portagee who has a split personality. He's harmless though, kinda like Jethro Bodine.

    Hey, that's a new one!

And a word to the wise. There are way too many Texans in this forum, but thankfully there is the occasional tornado which picks one or two up and blows them to another state to decrease the concentration. And as bad as a Texan rattlesnake are the Alabamian firefighters, who have nothing else to do here other than slandering honest people.

Consider yourself warned, and I hope you'll enjoy your stay. May it be a long and prosperous one :)
