Because, Germany had a miniscule automotive industry in WW 2. They also had a severe lack of petroleum (eg., gasoline....). Besides, when they got themselves surrounded like at Stalingrad they had a ready supply of food for the siege.....

    [rolleyes]

how fast could a horse-drawn German infantry division in 1941 advance in a day compared to a Panzer or Panzergrenadier division?

Well, that's a tough question to answer. I suggest you read some on the subject like Robert Heimbolt's Rates of Advance in Land Combat Operations or possibly Trevor Dupuy's Understanding War for the answer to that question.

    Thanks.

No, Panzer and Panzergrenadier divisions were fully motorized/mechanized (well, at least before the final year of the war) with generally no horses.

The panzergrenadier infantry regiments were mostly transported by trucks with the minority in armored halftracks.

Oh really? And where did you come up with that? Are you just thinking Horse cavalry or supply units that had to keep up with the infantry or armored units? Most supply and logistic units were horse drawn.

On advance rates: Are we talking average advance rates? Theoretical advance rates? Operational or strategic advance rates outside combat? Or, are we going to discuss complex wave theory with porportional integration - differentiated (PID) advance rates within a particular campaign? We could also discuss mini-max theories on advance rates if you'd like, among other variants.
