The holder of the spear believed it gave them power to control the destiny of the world, but with one fatal caveat – the holder dies soon after the spear leaves their possession...well that's the legend of the spear anyway. Hitler did say he did acquire the Spear of Destiny when the Germans annexed Austria in 1938 and returned it to the Fatherland for safe keeping, which was confiscated in 1945 when Patton's Army came along, shortly later Hitler dies to fulfill a prophecy???. But testing has proven that Spear wasn't old enough to be authentic, while other keepers of other copies also have claimed to be the real deal...simply Indiana Jones stuff???..or perhaps lost for good??? or is it indeed hidden away for the right moment??? What is the Spear of Destiny, and where can you get it?
I guess it's all what you really believe in..whether you are crazy or not...I take it all with a grain of salt, a lime and a shot of tequila.
I remember that there are, insofar as I know, ~30,000,000 recorded gods and nobody has ever produced solid evidence for any of them.
The spear was supposedly embedded with one of the nails from the cross, if I recall correctly? There are several dozen such nails in medieval churches across Europe, all of them authentic of course. .
It was a major plot device in "Constantine", a comic book movie about a suicide who is brought back after he learns that Hell is real. Very funny.
I was trippin' the first time I saw it. Second time I saw it I noticed a lot of things were missing...
Modern forensic examination reveals that under the gold portion is an iron nail hammered into the steel of the lance head. This was not known (or forgotten) until just a few years ago when it was examined by scientists. The lance itself seems to be 7th century, the nail perhaps earlier, but iron nails are iron nails. It's likely that an early pilgrim acquired the nail (I picture people all over the Jerusalem bazaar selling nails like this one and gen-u-wine pieces of the cross) and it was added to the spear for "power." The theory goes that since that portion of the lance head was wrapped in gold, the story about the nail underneath was forgotten and over the centuries the spear itself became the icon with a new story attached. The are several "Spears of Destiny." The one examined is the most famous one and resides in Austria today. .
Has anyone ever read “Hitler’s holy relics” 2011 by Sidney Kirkpatrick? I bought it at a book sale for a buck a few years back. It goes into detail about the Crown Jewels of the Holy Roman Empire that Hitler was apparently obsessed with getting. It also goes through the Monuments Men and the “spear of destiny.” It told of a story about (Maybe Himmler? IIRC) wanting to add on extensively to Wewelsburg castle (which is triangular shaped) and extend two sides of it back and make it look like “the spear”. I have no idea about the accuracy or some of this, but it was a fun read for a buck.
